Alexander was last seen in Housekeeping Camp on or around May 1.

It's still pretty cold still and the nights would be unbearable if exposed. Even when warm during the days, Yosemite can be a very dangerous place. Especially the moment you leave a trail or get near the water. ESPECIALLY this time of year, when the waterfalls and rivers and even the creeks are all raging.... and the bears are coming out of hibernation.

I just flew over Yosemite a couple of weeks ago and it was white. There's still a lot of snow around. imo, it's among the most beautiful places in the world.

We drive through Yosemite last summer, it's so beautiful. I want to camp near lake tenaya some summer, but I def would not tent camp there, RV only. Because bears.

LisaWL7TR :( It's a must see (it's my Disneyland). I will be going there next weekend for the day. I will ask around and see what I can learn. There is only one grocery store in the valley, and they will know everything if there is anything to know.

Because Sevier is young and in shape from his Naval training, they don’t suspect that any physical issues befell him, but he noted that the Merced River has been running deceptively quick and cold from the abundant snow melt that has swollen its banks.

Also, temperatures have fallen into the 40s during the evenings, making the cold a concern for survival.

Hikers visiting the park in the spring should take extra care around the river, noting that even if a stretch looks calm, there are often fast-moving currents beneath the surface.

If he was on a trail, he would have returned. Something bad happened.

RIP, Alex, andthank you for your service. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I was actually in Yosemite almost exactly a month before he went missing. Vernall Fall was one of the places my two teenage children and I visited. The ground was particularly slippery, and I really had to keep a close eye on the kids. This could happen to anyone.

This is so sad. There have been too many deaths this year of young people enjoying California parks. :(

For Lisa: Yosemite is a must see. I’ve traveled all over the country in an RV and Yosemite is by far my favorite place...especially at the time this young man was there in May, when the snow is melting and the waterfalls are at their best. But I’ll go anytime. There is nothing else like it. We try to make an annual trek whenever possible. I’m no longer a camper. The Yosemite Valley Lodge is very comfortable.

Pictures don’t do it justice (unless you’re Ansel Adams) but here you go...
