This German article is just saying the search is continuing and that police spokesperson Peter Surowski says there is a strong possibility Prof. Krost has fallen among the many boulders on the trail and is injured.

    http://www.volksstimme.de/nachrichten/sachsen_anhalt/1155845_Suche-in-US-Wildnis-geht-weiter.html

I hope he is found soon because things look dark now - he had no food and little water. If the searchers find Alois Krost in the next one or two days, he could survive. The weather in San B has been reported as 'mild' in Germany. Otherwise, I think all hope is lost. :(

Does anyone know if altitude sickness is possible on that trail?

There don't seem to be any updates.
I found nothing on Alois on the English language forums for Magdeburg in Germany. Guess there aren't many Americans there:

In Bavaria the feuerwehr have been out searching for a biting turtle.....

I really wish a group could go out and help with the search for poor Alois in San Bernardino. I know groups of fire department workers do organise journeys to the US, and they are very well trained and organized. I'm not criticizing the volunteers now searching for Alois at all, I just think germany could offer some support, for a missing citizen. I suppose the paperwork would take forever though, and Alois needs to be found right now.

Still hoping Alois will be found, very soon.

LA Times is also putting out that urgent appeal for 'experienced backcountry hikers'.

I hope people come forward to help. This search is so important because Alois is lost so far from home.

There are so many hiker clubs in SoCal and there is such a lot of very difficult terrain to search. Volunteers should note the 'experienced' as I don't think the Pinnacles trail is suitable for just any hiker at all.

Professor Krost has an English language Facebook page here now:

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Help-Find-Alois-Krost/440792559364382

I'm not on Facebook, so I can't see all of it, but I think people participating in the search are posting. Search efforts have not stopped, and that's good.

Professor Krost is a leading academic and was attending a big conference. I would have expected him to have an iphone - even, with luck, to have the find my iphone function? There doesn't seem to have been any mention of a cell phone (handy) at all though.

There is a mention of a cell with GPS in this long article about Alois here, but it is hiking safety advice from A SAR member in the Harz mountains. I guess GPS tracking would already have been carried out, if it was possible.

The article mentions the added difficulty for Alois's family members, because of the huge time zone difference. This must be so, so hard for them. :(
