CALABASAS, Calif. - Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the skeletal remains of a man found on a hiking trail in Calabasas on Wednesday, officials say.

The remains were said to be those of an adult male. A cause of death was not immediately known.

What does "extended" mean in this context, I wonder? Months? Years? Or even decades?

Surely if they'd been there very long someone would have tripped over them before now.

So somewhere between ancient and a couple weeks I guess.

Apparently the bones were found somewhere near, but not on, the trail by a worker.

Impossible to know how old yet. I lived near a big park where human remains were periodically discovered. Those that were identified were all suicides or accidents. I recall one had been there since the 1980s. Of course, that was no where near LA, which is a different world.

Any possibility this could be a Randy Kraft victim?

Bob Harrod disappeared from Placentia, OC. Placentia is only around an hours drive from Calabasas. It's possible.
