"The alarm is a large part of the investigation into how Lam died and why her body was discovered in the rooftop tank, said L.A. Police Department spokesman Officer Christopher No.
That will play a role to see if that was locked or not or who had access to that, No said"
Investigators hope an autopsy Thursday will unravel the mystery of how Elisa Lam died, after the missing Vancouver womans body was found in a water tank on the rooftop of a Los Angeles hotel earlier this week.
Police are still trying to determine if Lams death involved foul play or if she was the victim of a bizarre accident.
Sources close to the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing said Lam's death might have been accidental. Detectives were looking for any signs of trauma on her body or other clues at the hotel. An autopsy was planned Thursday.
An autopsy was completed on Thursday but the case of death has been "deferred, pending additional tests," said Ed Winter, L.A. County assistant chief coroner.
The office is waiting for results of blood, urine and toxicology tests that are expected in six to eight weeks. Until then, the coroner won't be releasing any partial or preliminary information, he said.
"What was in her system? Were all the organs functioning right? ... Any prescriptions, was she on meds within a therapeutic level or did she take too many or was there none?" said Winter in explaining what the coroner is looking for.
"High school classmate AR of Vancouver called Lam's death shocking and said she was one of the friendliest people he knew.
"This is the last person I expect out of all my friends to have something like this happen to her," Ristea said.
More tests need to be performed before a cause of death can be determined for the Canadian tourist whose body was found inside a water tank atop a downtown Los Angeles hotel, coroner's officials said Thursday...Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said the autopsy was completed. He would not say whether the medical examination found visible signs of trauma on the body.
