    The abandoned car part is pretty ominous but since this man is a firefighter with one of the top crews I imagine he could make it a few days on his own in the wilderness if he wanted to. Hopefully he is taking taking some time for himself and he can return when he’s ready.

    I think what bothers me most about this is he disappeared just 3 days after losing a fellow Big Bear hotshot.

    This one caught my eye. It's been such a tough year for the western firefighters.
    I REALLY hope and pray he's OK but it seems doubtful.

    Date and time: September 24, 2020, 4:30 PM
    Location: Hwy 18 and Delta Ave
    Description:
    Hispanic Male
    35 years old
    5'9", 175 lbs
    Bald
    Brown Eyes
    Summary:
    California Highway Patrol located Carlos' vehicle on September 20th on HWY 18 and Delta Ave. Carlos was reported missing by family on September 24th. Aviation, a K9, and a ground search was done after the report. His backpack was found 75 yards from where his vehicle was located. K9s continued to track Carlos' scent but the scent was eventually lost. We are continuing the search with deputies and bloodhounds. Carlos is a part of the United States Forest Service Interagency Hotshot Crew and was off duty at the time and not in the area of the El Dorado Fire.
    Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact Dispatch at 760-956-5001.

    UPDATE: Monday, September 28th, 3:30 p.m.

    Through investigation, deputies have learned that on September 20th, Carlos Baltazar may have been picked up near his vehicle on Hwy 18 and Delta Ave by someone driving a Subaru.

    Deputies are asking anyone who was in the area of Hwy 18 and Delta Ave on September 20th to contact the Big Bear Sheriff's Station at (909) 866-0100 or Sheriff's Dispatch at (909) 866-7581.

    This is the latest thing I found, nothing new really. Family stated he had been depressed. :(

    Carlos's sister has set up a page at a popular funding site, "Help Bring Carlos Baltazar Home." It can easily be found with a google search for that title. It was started on October 21, 2020. I feel sorry for Carlos's family and son, as this must be a terribly stressful time.
