The Marin County Sheriff's Office is searching Sunday for Carol Kiparsky, 77, and her husband Ian Irwin, 72 last seen Friday at a rental house on Via de La Vista in Inverness/Sea Haven.
    • Deputies believe they may have gone hiking in the Inverness area.

    • Carol is 5'2" tall, weighs 115 lbs, with gray hair and blue eyes.
    • Ian is 6'1" tall, 175 lbs, with blue eyes. He is balding but has some gray hair.
    • Deputies do not know what clothing they may be wearing.
    • This is highly out of character for them and after extensive searching and investigation Sunday afternoon and evening, no clues have been located.
    • Approx 60 searchers from The Marin Sheriff’s Search and Rescue assisted; the Marin Sheriff’s Department, Inverness Fire, the CHP, State Parks, Marin County Fire and the National Park Service.

This is worrying, I hope they didn't get into difficulties while hiking. Looking at the map of this area it appears to be very heavily wooded, unless they went further afield where it is more sparse. The trees may have made it difficult for them to be found if they were in difficulty somewhere.

    Noting:
    • A 136 person SAR team launched at 9 a.m. Monday. Marin SAR has called in more ground workers and K9 teams to scour the area around Inverness, Tomales Bay State Park and Point Reyes National Seashore.
"They were supposed to come back by Saturday night. Saturday night came and went and I never heard from them" said AG "I was supposed to take care of their cat until then and they never came back."

AG said he has been living in the couple's Palo Alto home since September. He said the couple has gone hiking or camping a number of times since then that it's of course unusual for them not to return when expected.

Very worrying. I have stayed in that very neighborhood. It's easy to get lost around there, and easy to lose GPS and cell phone service.

I had wondered if there would be difficulties with GPS and phone signal. I really hope that they didn't get lost or into some other difficulty and then weren't able to call for help. I'm really worried about these two, especially given their ages.

They were seen but the way the press release is worded I wonder if it was on video because it also mentions "last contact." MOO

You are right, I missed that. I wonder why they didn't take them for safety reasons. I really hope they are found soon.

I cannot imagine hiking with no phone or emergency beacon especially at their ages!

Maybe cell phone service is limited, though phones are useful for more than that, of course. Also possible they have Apple Watches or something similar...I use mine without my phone when walking if I have no pockets. It has cellular capabilities. JMO

Oh boy. I'm a guy. I would never leave my wallet behind. Fits too easily into any pocket of any pair of long pants or shorts. So. That leaves ...
