Aranza Villegas, who was with Khazar Momeni, the defendant's sister, in the hours before Lee was killed took the stand. Villegas told the jury she and Khazar were given drugs by Lee's alleged dealer.As the DA questioned Villegas, Villegas appeared to distance herself from both Momenis, saying she "socialized" with Khazar but weren't friends, per se. Villegas also said the defendant was Khazar's brother and not her friend.
The trial will resume Tuesday since Monday is Veteran's Day.

The prosecution rested its case as of 2:26 p.m.The judge excused the jury for the rest of the day. The defense will begin its case at 9:30 a.m. Thursday
Outside the presence of the jury, the defense moved for a mistrial on a couple of grounds, a standard move, but the judge denied that motion.

SFPD Sgt. Brent Dittmer, the lead investigator in the Nima Momeni murder trial, is being cross-examined by the defense.Throughout the trial, Dittmer had been sitting next to prosecutors at the DA's table. Now, he's on the witness stand, answering questions about details of the investigation.
He has confirmed a previous reference by the prosecution that the husband of Momeni's sister Khazar Momeni at one point had looked up "how to erase an iPhone."

Momeni’s attorneys today called to the stand Greg Hampikian, a DNA expert — who claimed there was a “serious problem” with the DNA on the knife allegedly used to kill Lee.
Hampikian testified that an important footnote was left off the analysis that primarily placed Momeni’s DNA on the handle of the weapon. That footnote would have included the possibility of a false reading.

Also testified to this timeline: @SFPD Sgt. Dittmer called Aranza for interview, Aranza spoke to Khazar who told her “to meet with her lawyers,” she met 2 of Nima’s attorneys in a park, they asked her what she knew/told her get an attorney, she then spoke to Sgt. Dittmer Pg. 2
Testified about phone calls/texts Nima made to her including after Bob Lee’s murder & before his arrest. One text telling her to write down everything. Text in next tweet .. Pg. 3

Also this am, Bob Lee’s toxicology report was entered into evidence after foundation w/ Chief Forensic toxicologist of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in SF, Dr. Luke Rodda. Juror question asked judge if they will be able to see it. Answer - yes.

Dr. John Marraccini is the next defense witness. Testifying about drugs in Bob Lee’s system (including cocaine & ketamine) & that knife wound (to hip) “could be .. person wielding the knife (had it) directed back at them.” Also spoke about lack of defensive wounds on Lee.

Nima Momeni’s attorneys said the jury deserves to see a “full picture” of what happened when Bob Lee was killed. That’s why they revealed Lee’s toxicology report today showing he had cocaine and ketamine in his system. Defense says prosecutors only showed pieces of the picture.

He says Lee's autopsy showed he had alcohol, cocaine and ketamine in his system, which could have reduced Lee's sensitivity to pain and could have affected his predictability, reasonableness and perception.
The defense has said Lee was the aggressive one who came at Momeni with a knife, leading Momeni to take the knife and stab Lee in self-defense.
Khazar had previously told jurors that the alleged dealer had pulled down her pants in a sexual manner. Villegas testified today that the man was simply helping Khazar change out of her clothes.
Villegas confirmed she and Nima had exchanged text messages in which Nima asked her to write down everything she remembered with respect to her interactions with both Lee and the alleged dealer.
At one point, Nima Momeni wrote, "I will not talk about any of this to my sister or her husband and you don't need to protect her cause she already told me about him getting naked and stuff."
Aranza Villegas is taking the stand again and is being cross-examined by the prosecution.

This afternoon, the jury heard from Dr. John Marracini, a pathologist hired by the defense. He said his believes some of the wounds suffered by Bob Lee could have been the result of self-defense by the defendant.He says Lee's autopsy showed he had alcohol, cocaine and ketamine in his system, which could have reduced Lee's sensitivity to pain and could have affected his predictability, reasonableness and perception.

Nima Momeni's defense says Aranza Villegas' testimony helped them. They maintain that Nima had no issues with Bob Lee (no motive). I asked why Nima's text to Aranza said she should "...write down.. anything else you know/remember about Bob & Jeremy (Boivin)..." Answer here:
