The incident was reported to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office. A Forensic Anthropologist later determined the skull belonged to a 12 to 13 year-old juvenile. I have a couple of possibles on my spreadsheet for this Doe.

Corrine Groenenberg

Phillip Montoya

Both were 14 when LKA, so not within the 12-13 age range. Nevertheless, they are close enough to the age range to be considered.

Modesto and Fremont are both very close to Contra Costa County.

Both Corrine and the Doe indicate DNA available, so she probably would have hit in the state DNA database and/or CODIS if she was this Doe.

There is no DNA available for Phillip, so there would not have been a hit even if he is the Doe.

But if there is DNA available on the Doe, why is the gender unknown? Maybe it's mtDNA only.

Quite a few possibilities: Cheryl Wyant http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/w/wyant_cherie.html went missing shortly before her 14th birthday in 1978, she was last seen leaving a hospital in Rohnert Park, CA. Darren Conway Rogers,13, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/r/rogers_darren.html was last seen in Modesto, CA in 1973. Debra Pscholka,12, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/pscholka_debra.html was last seen in Corona, CA in 1971. Michael Burnett,14, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/burnett_michael.html was last seen in Oroville, CA in 1971. Kim Mallon,13, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mallon_kim.html has been missing under suspicious circumstances from Los Angeles since 1973. Michael McGhee,13, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mcghee_michael.html hasn't been seen since 1976 and is believed to be a murder victim. Tara Cossey,12, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/cossey_tara.html is thought to have been abducted. Rachel Ziselman http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/z/ziselman_rachel.html went missing shortly before her 12th birthday in 1977. Thomas Meuse,14, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/meuse_thomas.html is thought to have run away. Brenda Davidson, almost 14, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/davidson_brenda.html possibly ran away from home and was supposedly seen buying a bus ticket on the afternoon of her disappearance. Diane Gilchrist,14, http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/gilchrist_diane.html was likely abducted.
