Sacramento, California, Animal services want to solve a series of four 'freaky' crimes against animals in six weeks, in Reichmuth park. The latest is a sheep, found in a box. Like other animals found before it, it had been beheaded.

'In January, a dead goat was found at the park inside a cardboard box and later headless chickens in a bag. In February, before the discovery of the sheep, a dead tortoise was found in a brown paper bag.'

Hopefully this is being taken seriously by LE as it could be a lot more than some perverse religious ritual.

Those poor animals, bless them.

A cow? Where do you just get a cow to decapitate? Actually not where...but how?
Couldn't imagine it'd be easy to steal a cow.

Like an abuser harming their victim's pets to scare and bring them emotional trauma. Or one or more people practising decapitation on animals for latter doing so to humans. It would seem maybe these animals are coming from farms, but I don't know about the turtle. All of these poor animals are either of a defenseless nature or if they were they could easily be overpowered. Sickening. :gasp:

Exactly, defenseless animals who could easily be overpowered by a deranged psychopath who gets pleasure from killing, and is probably practicing so his next victims will be humans. Beyond sickening.

MOO

Wow. If I lived there, I would be immensely concerned. Scary stuff.

June 2015:

Saturday -- A couple searching for a dog found the body of a goat with its head next to it by light-rail tracks in Sacramento. Beside the headless goat was a bag of dead chickens, a headless rat and decapitated catfish.

March 30 -- The remains of roosters and pigeons -- along with a bloody machete -- were found at Pocket Road and Windbridge Drive in an elaborately staged incident, officials said. The discovery marked the first time a weapon was found near the remains.

March 3 -- Two bags containing a decapitated rabbit, dead chickens and tea candles were found on the rail tracks in Midtown Sacramento near U and 20th streets. The city said the discovery marked the 10th incident.

Feb. 27 -- Two decapitated baby goats were discovered as the number of dead animals found in Sacramento continued to grow. A woman spotted the remains along the railroad tracks near 19th and V streets.

Feb. 25 -- Two adult goats and four lambs were found decapitated in an open field near Sully Street and Clair Avenue.

July 2015:

It started when someone left a 120-pound cow head in a park...

But more than six months after the killings began, authorities say they still don’t know who — or what — they’re dealing with.

Gina Knepp, a spokeswoman for the Sacramento Department of Animal Control, told Reuters that some packages have included bloody dollar bills, oil and seeds that are known to be used in some Afro-Caribbean religions...

Sacrificing animals for religious reasons is not illegal, KTXL reported. To warrant charges, investigators would have to prove the animals endured prolonged and unnecessary suffering.

July 2015:

In the latest incident, the rotting carcass of a decapitated brown chicken was found lying on the light railroad tracks, “between Q and S streets just east of 19th Street,” according to police. Along with the headless fowl were three brown paper grocery bags, one of which had a few blood-covered one dollar bills sticking out of it. Also, the man found what he said to be the body of a guinea hen in another bag.

This incident is the 15th of its kind since 2014. Police officials have discovered bowls of pigeon heads, dead birds, and decapitated livestock during the string of odd incidents...

Some believe the origin behind the grisly slayings is a mysterious religion called Santeria.
