“My niece went to go get the phone and the wallet back from her, and she wouldn’t give it back to my niece,” she told me. “And then the police, the Arcata police had to go and get it from her. And then she had factory reset the phone and took his ID out of his wallet.”

Sheriff's Office Issues Statement on Fortuna Teen Who Went Missing and Presumably Drowned While Attempting to Rescue a Girl in the Trinity Last Week

Nineteen-year-old Joseph Viveiros Dawson is still missing after he was reportedly swept away while attempting to rescue a girl from the Trinity River.

According to witnesses, a juvenile female had been swept away by the river current while attempting to cool off and two additional persons had jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue her.
