CA CA - Kaya Centeno, 10, Rohnert Park, 1 June 2012

Rohnert Park Child Missing for 8 Years Case # 20-2531
On July 24, 2020, The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Detective Bureau received information from Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding possible child abuse that had occurred within the city of Rohnert Park. CPS said they were in contact with authorities in Mexico who had two victim children, female (17) and male (15) in protective custody because of alleged child abuse by their adoptive parents Gina Centeno and Jose Centeno. The children had been brought from Rohnert Park to Mexico by their adoptive parents approximately 1.5 years ago to live with extended family. Rohnert Park Detectives and the FBI were able to work with the US Embassy and Child Protective Services to get the children to a safe place in Sonoma County where they could be forensically interviewed.
After interviewing the children, there were allegations of emotional, sexual and physical abuse that had occurred over an eight to ten year period of time. During an interview a reference was made about their older “sister” Kaya that used to live with them in Rohnert Park. The children said Kaya went missing from their Rohnert Park home approximately eight to ten years ago and she has not been heard from or seen since.
Kaya and her two siblings were adopted in 2008 by Gina and Jose Centeno who live in Rohnert Park. Kaya may have an AKA of Kaya Whitney Kazzee. At the time she went missing, her name was Kaya Marie Centeno. Kaya was enrolled into John Reed School in Rohnert Park and then removed in the second grade (2010-2011) to be home schooled.
Detectives were able to obtain search warrants for the Rohnert Park home where the children alleged the abuse took place. Detectives found evidence to corroborate the victim’s statements about the abuse and subsequently arrested both Gina and Jose Centeno for PC 209(a) – Aggravated Kidnapping.
Gina and Jose were booked into the Sonoma County Jail and each are being held on $18 million dollars bail.
The kidnapping portion of the case has been turned over to the Sonoma County District Attorney for prosecution. Any further questions regarding the kidnapping portion of the case should be directed to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.
Rohnert Park Detectives were able to use a photo of Kaya and have it digitally enhanced and age progressed to estimate what Kaya would look like today. Kaya turned 18 in May 2020. This is still an active missing person’s investigation and many leads are still being processed. Rohnert Park Detectives are currently working with the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in an effort to locate Kaya. The attached photos are of her at age 7 and then age progressed to age 18.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is asking for any information related to the whereabouts of Kaya Centeno or Kaya Kazzee. If you have seen Kaya or have any information, Please call the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety

This is Adam Herrman all over again.

Do you think that she could be this individual?

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

It looks like that NamUs profile is "Possibly related to UP #10944" which is here 1200UFCA

It looks like all the details match up. What an unfortunate end for this woman. I do hope she's identified, as much as we hope to find Kaya.

Edited to add: there is a thread for her, if anyone else felt drawn to it: CA - CA - Brisbane, WhtFem Skel UP10856, 33-46, metal repair in forearm, Nov'12

Kaya was last seen by her siblings when she was between 8 and 12 years old. Their adoptive parents were recently found to have been abusing Kaya’s siblings. The parents have not disclosed her location.

Thank you for your responses. I will forward information to RPPD. She was 7-9 years old when she disappeared. But at this point I don’t think any stone should be left unturned.

The UID is way too old to be Kaya. They have determined the person to be at least 30.

I hope whatever happened to Kaya, she can be recovered.

Have you seen this child? Kaya Centeno

‘We don’t know where Kaya is’: After parents charged with abuse, siblings tell police they haven’t seen sister in years

[...]

The Centenos had adopted five children: three siblings and later on, twins. Gina and Jose separated and Gina has been raising the twins, according to police.

Prosecutors have charged the pair with felony kidnapping, alleging that they concealed the three older siblings to obtain adoption assistance funding, according to court records obtained by the newspaper.

Jose and Gina Centeno gave Kaya’s younger sister and brother an explanation for why she disappeared, although it has not been publicly revealed. Investigators did find evidence in the family’s home “to corroborate the victims’ statements about the abuse,“ police said in a written statement to the news media.

The parents are being held in the Sonoma County Jail on $18 million bail and are expected to make another court appearance on Oct. 5. They each face life sentences if convicted.

California authorities are searching for a teen girl missing for eight to 10 years, after they learned of her disappearance while investigating allegations of child abuse by her adoptive parents.
Kaya Centeno's siblings -- a brother, now 15, and sister, now 17 -- told police that Kaya, who would have turned 18 on May 23, went missing from the family's Rohnert Park home between 2010 and 2012, coinciding with the start of alleged ongoing emotional, sexual and physical abuse inflicted on the children by the parents, Gina and Jose Centeno, who had adopted all three children in 2008, police said in a news release.
[...]
Rohnert Park detectives received a tip July 24 about the alleged abuse in their city by Child Protective Services workers, who had been in contact with authorities in Mexico, where the 15- and 17-year-old had been placed in protective custody after alleging abuse by the parents.
