GUILTY CA - Kris Anderson, 57, murdered, Santa Monica, 11 June 2016 *arrest*

He was not eligible for a “not guilty” plea, they deliberated between involuntary manslaughter, 2nd degree and 1st degree. The judge threw out voluntary manslaughter.

Thanks for the info @peanutbutterandjustice. I’m not sure what you mean when you say “he was not eligible for a ‘not guilty’ plea.” I googled but nothing popped up to explain your terminology. I assume he pled “not guilty” which is why there was a trial. So the jury could have found him “not guilty“ instead of the other options they were given. Thanks! :)

I too don't understand that statement....

Wow. Thanks for following along, yall. His history of accusing and reacting feels uncomfortable, to me. I feel bad that Kris was accused of something that he doesn't have the chance to show wasn't true. I hope Theo stays where he is for a long time. He seems..... angry.

I wonder if he has been in prison since 2016? He should get at least life in prison, if not he will probably get out soon based in whatever sentencing he gets. I would love to find more articles or information on the victim. So tragic.

He has probably been in jail, not prison while this case was going on.

In the past, I think you had a very valid fear. California's revolving door for murder convictions was well oiled and constantly in motion. This led to murderers getting released in as early as seven years at one time via "parole for everybody", jail over crowding, and good time programs.

But......

Apparently, California's revolving door for murder convictions is stuck in the "closed" position. Currently, people convicted of First Degree homicide must serve the determinate part of their sentence (25 years) before being eligible for parole.

They are also not eligible for any creative math "good time" etc. equations in regards to their sentence. One source, however, suggests that they are still eligible for an essentially automatic 15% time reduction given to all California inmates. As a side note, the federal government also has a 15% automatic reduction for federal sentences.

But... even with a possible 15% automatic reduction, he is still looking at a 21.5 year, "must do" sentence if convicted.

You say IF - he IS convicted - he was found guilty - from my notes:
Jurors reached a verdict (7/8/22) guilty on 2nd degree murder.

Thanks for the important detail.

As a side note, Second Degree murder in California has a 15 year determinate sentence (15 to life).

So..... If the 15% automatic reduction exists, he is looking at a parole possibility in 13 years. After applying his 6 years of time served credit, this turns into potential parole in 7 years.

Of course, being eligible for parole does not mean that one actually gets parole.

Any news on the sentencing? I am just finding old July articles.

TIA ! :)

I found this in the jail site. Sentencing might have been moved to Dec.
