Police search for missing San Rafael woman
Tuesday, February 02, 2010

SAN RAFAEL, CA -- San Rafael police are seeking information about a 35-year-old woman who has been missing since Jan. 1.

Laura Negrete Cerda left her San Rafael home to visit friends in San Jose, police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said. She does not drive and planned to take public transportation.

She told her husband she would return the next day but did not and she failed to appear at work or contact her employer, Rohrbacher said.

Cerda's family waited several days then contacted police, Rohrbacher said. She is not considered at risk but attempts to track her whereabouts have been unsuccessful, Rohrbacher said.

Cerda is 5 feet 1 inch, 240 pounds and has long dyed red hair and brown eyes, police said.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call San Rafael police at (415) 485-3000 or Crime Stoppers at (800)-222-8477 or online at www.bayareacrimestoppers.com.

San Rafael police are seeking information about a local woman who has not been in contact with her family for the past month.

Laura Negrete Cerda left her home on Jan. 1 to visit friends overnight in San Jose and told her husband that she would return the next day. Cerda is not considered to be at risk, however all reasonable attempts to track her whereabouts have been unsuccessful. Cerda does not drive and planned to take public transportation to San Jose. It’s unknown what resources she may have available to her.

Cerda is a Hispanic female, age 35, 5 foot 1 and 240 pounds. She has long dyed red hair and brown eyes.

Her namus entry contains some intriguing additional info

Laura Cerda left her home on 01/01/10 to go visit friends in San Jose. She has a husband and three children. She was supposed to take a Greyhound bus but there is no record of her ever having purchased a ticket or getting on the bus. Laura Cerda may have left her family to be with a boyfriend who has also not been seen or heard from since 01/01/10.

Does that mean we are potentially looking for 2 missing people ?

That's a very interesting detail—especially since it's not included on other sites. An ABC article from 2010 says she went "to visit friends." The Charley Project omits that part entirely.

So where is this detail coming from? Could it be a ruse to deflect attention elsewhere? If so, who would benefit from that?

According to the ABC article, Laura's "family" waited several days before contacting police. Maybe this was because in 2010, January 1 was a Friday, and the "family" was waiting to see if she'd show up for work on Monday, January 4th? But if by "family," they really mean the husband, then could there be another reason for the delay?
