A California dad allegedly tossed his 1-year-old daughter off a “steep cliff” to her death after he stabbed the child’s mom and a bystander who tried to help, relatives and police said.

Palm Desert resident Adam Slater, 49, allegedly pulled the child from the arms of an unidentified Good Samaritan who rushed to their aid after Slater crashed and rolled his vehicle on Highway 74 in the Coachella Valley around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Adam Slater, 49, is being held at a Riverside County Jail in Indio on $1 million bail.

He faces additional charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, and is due to be arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday, according to jail records.

Slater is a registered sex offender with a 1995 conviction for “penetration of a victim with a foreign object by force.” He served about two years in state prison, released in 1997, according to information on California’s Megan’s Law website.

Adam Slater, 49, was charged Monday with multiple counts, including murder, following a series of events that left the child dead and two adults injured on May 6.

The murder charge includes an accusation of kidnapping and the added circumstance is what makes Slater eligible for the death penalty, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's office.

According to a criminal complaint, Slater is also charged with one count each of child endangerment, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.

He's scheduled to be arraigned 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Larson Justice Center in Indio. It is not clear if he has an attorney.

Also - on the article you posted on #14:

Slater is scheduled to return to court July 31 for a felony settlement conference, a routine court appearance to discuss a case. Hall said he expects the case “to proceed as normally as it would” during the coronavirus pandemic, which has hindered many cases from moving forward.

Oh God, that poor baby! She probably sees her mother get stabbed, gets taken by her father, survives a horrible car crash and then, just as she’s rescued, she sees another person stabbed then gets thrown into a ravine which kills her.

Don't know IF the hearing happened on 7/31 - but the jail has been updated with a new hearing date. I shall wait on @MsMarple to give me the "name" of the hearing - if it is still a Felony Settlement one. :)
