CA CA - Mickey Guidry, 16, San Marcos, 26 Nov 2009

I've been following this case for a while. Sadly I don't think they will ever be able to locate his remains out there.

The Guidry family name is very common in south Louisiana, especially in the Acadiana region. I'm wondering if he has family here (Louisiana). So sad that he hasn't been located.

Thinking of Mickey's case today, as my husband, father, and daughter just returned from a camping trip in Anza Borrego. It is Thanksgiving weekend, so I guess it has been 6 years now. I hope that his case will be solved one day.

Teen disappeared in the desert seven years ago

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/sd-no-guidry-missing-20161121-story.html

Few clues have surfaced about the fate of Mickey Guidry in the years that have followed, despite ongoing searches in the remote desert where the Jeep Cherokee he had taken without his parents permission was found broken down.

Hope remains that Mickey hitched a ride with another desert visitor that holiday weekend and has chosen not to surface. But in all likelihood he died and his remains have been scattered and buried in the sand.

His mother, stepfather and others still search the area — described as complex, enormous and rugged — for clues, or bones. A dim ray of hope was raised last summer when a man posted beneath an old story about Mickey written on the East County Magazine website saying he remembers seeing the boy talking to another couple in a Jeep the morning after he was last seen.

“Now the possibility exists that he went with those two people,” said Don Parker, who is now Mickey’s stepfather though the two have never met. “Maybe he made it out with those two people and they dropped him off and he’s managed to stay off the grid somehow. Maybe those two people are suspects. Maybe they’re just witnesses. Maybe they took him and did something with him. Who knows? Now there are more possibilities.”

With the permission of our mod sillybilly, I wanted to relay a little information I have about human remains that were discovered in the Imperial County desert yesterday, 1/15/17.

Yesterday, a reliable source whom I 100% trust found human remains partially buried in an area east of Fossil Canyon, north of Ocotillo, CA. They discovered the femur, started digging and then also found a skull, vertebrae, teeth with lower jaw, and pieces of the pelvis. There is probably more buried nearby, but they opted to stop digging and contact police.

I have pictures of the bones described above, but will not be posting them here. The skull has a huge hole on top of the cranium. It doesn't appear to be there due to exposure to the elements, since the remainder of the skull is well intact.

The bones have coloration with hues of dark pink and gray, as well as the expected off white color, albeit slightly darker than those seen in laboratories. To me this means they aren't very old, but I am not an expert and would not even pretend to know how to age bones.

It could be a man or woman, I am not knowledgable in determining that. I'm leaning towards woman, but again, I don't really know. However, by looking at the teeth and seeing molars, it's obvious the skeleton is at least an older teen to an adult.

My my source stated that there had been flash flooding there in recent weeks, so felt it was possible the remains washed down from a northern area. The earth where the bones were found was sandy/sooty in nature as well. Not hard earth.

i didn't know if this find would make its way into MSM, but I wanted to alert anyone looking for Mickey to at least be able to follow up on this sighting.

I wonder if this is Bureau of Land Management property.

If so, there's a lot of people to go through to get information on these bones.

Mickey, circa 2009; Age-progression to age 20 (circa 2013); Guidry's Jeep Grand Cherokee

Details of Disappearance: Mickey disappeared from San Marcos, California on November 27, 2009. He took his parents' Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV without permission on November 25 and went camping with friends at Anza Borrego State Park off Split Mountain Road. He left the campsite at 3:00 p.m. on November 27, presumably to go home, but never arrived and has never been heard from again.

The next day, the SUV was found damaged and stuck in the sand in a remote area of the park, eight miles from the nearest paved road. A photo of it is posted with this case summary. The keys were in the ignition, but the SUV wasn't in drivable condition; in addition to its being stuck in the sand, the front bumper and side mirror had been torn off and one of the front wheels was bent.

Many of Mickey's personal belongings, including his wallet, clothes, cellular phone charger and school identification card, were inside the vehicle, and the vehicle's spare tire cover and a blanket were found on a rocky trail less than two miles away.

After Mickey left home on November 25, his family reported the Jeep as stolen but didn't report him as a missing person, because they'd assumed he was fine and would return home in a few days. They cut off service to his cellular phone as punishment, and planned to ground him when he came home.

They didn't report him missing until after the Jeep was located. They also reactivated his phone, which disappeared along with Mickey, but he never used it again.

Investigators believe Mickey left of his own accord. The week before he disappeared, he stole his stepfather's motorcycle and went to a state park in Riverside County, California. After the motorcycle ran out of gas, Mickey walked away and met with a park ranger, then claimed he had been kidnapped and escaped. This triggered a helicopter search for the kidnappers.

Mickey later admitted he'd run away and then made up the kidnap story. He did not have a driver's license, but this was the third or fourth time he'd taken a vehicle from his parents without their consent. His family grounded him as punishment and made an appointment for him to see a psychiatrist, but he disappeared again before he could keep the appointment.

Mickey's mother stated he didn't use drugs and alcohol and didn't have any problems in the family other than the repeated vehicle thefts. She stated they were planning to give the Jeep to him once he got his driver's license.

He was involved with Future Farmers of America and took ROTC courses at school, and he enjoys working with small engines. He formerly lived in Arkansas. Mickey's stepfather is in the military and was on duty overseas at the time of Mickey's disappearance, but he came home on compassionate leave afterwards.

Although authorities stated they have found no evidence of foul play in his disappearance and said they thought he ran away, possibly to the San Diego, California area, Mickey's family fears for his safety and they believe he may not be missing voluntarily. In December 2022, hikers found some of Mickey's clothing, including his sneakers and shorts, in the area where he was last seen at. The items were tattered and sun-bleached, and appeared to have been exposed to the elements for a long time.

He was a student at San Marcos High School in 2009, and his grades had recently slipped; he had been grounded before his disappearance for bringing home a bad report card. His case remains unsolved.

I've never heard the bit about hikers finding some of his belongings in December 2022! Wow! Hopefully they have checked the area for bones. I go to Anza Borrego 1-2x per year and I always think of this case.

Not sure if I am allowed to post a link from the "Help Find Mickey Guidry" Facebook page, run by his mother. To summarize, the mom posted on that page in 12/2022 that his clothing items were found by hikers in 3/2022. They were limited edition "Iron Maiden" Vans shoes and Dickie's shorts, exactly as the mother had described all along. Very distinctive and definitely his. Also a deteriorated hoodie.

Human remains (jawbone etc) were found along the path between Harper Canyon and Harper Flat. There are two missing people who disappeared in July 2023, Fang Jin and John Root Fitzpatrick (JRF). JRF's vehicle was found near Harper Canyon and the bones were found on the trail in early September 2023. See this link for details:

Still, I thought of Mickey's case! When I look at the map of where Mickey's clothes were found, it really looks to be on the same trail where these bones were found. Could the bones be Mickey's, and not related to Fang Jin or JRF??

Edit to add: Although, when I read more CBS8 coverage of the case, some are saying that JRF's ID was found with the reamins. If that is the case, that would rule out them being related to Mickey. But "officially", it sounds like the San Diego Sheriff's Dept has not confirmed an ID of the remains.

They also said that there were no teeth in the skull or jawbone, and the entire identification seems to have been done based on JRFs ID card. So… I’d like to think DNA would clearly be done. Mickeys case is being pointed out on the thread for JFR and Fang Jin as well, in regards to there being possibly more than one set of remains found In the wash. Hopefully one of the avid posters will push Mickey to the news sites, they seem to be having good luck pushing for coverage.
