CA - Norma Lopez, 17, abducted & murdered, Moreno Valley, 15 July 2010 *Arrest*

That sounds REALLY promising I can't wait to see what comes of it.

Ooo Ooo look what I found

"The investigation into the slaying of 17-year-old Norma Lopez in Moreno Valley may be focusing on a teacher's aide who worked at the girl's high school."

Also

"Eric M. Muswaswa, 42, who lives at the house with his wife and son, was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice and resisting a police officer on the day the search warrant was executed,"

And

"investigators who searched the home focused on the couple's son — Lazarus Tasby, 25 — and removed several items from his room."

Tasby worked at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley from March 2007 to November 2009. He resigned a few weeks after being arrested on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute, according to Riverside County Superior Court records.

So far, Tasby's home has been searched and he has not been declared a POI. If Tasby taught at Norma's school, he knew her. Are the police staying mum on this right now because they are hoping someone will slip up at the upcoming benefit concert? Are they still waiting on forensics? If so, how long would it take for Tasby to be "in the clear"?

Bumping for Norma.

Unless Norma was in one of his classes, it's not for sure that he personally knew her. I'm kind of surprised however that there hasn't been any follow-up since news broke of the Tasby's home search and vehicle impound. MOO

This case just dropped off the face of the earth. Bumping for poor Norma and her family.

I've been trying for months to find this thread, but I couldn't remember Norma's last name. I watched every day from the time she went missing as long as the local stations covered it. I wish there was news, but I know all her family and friends as well as LE wish it a whole lot more.
Norma sounds like a wonderful young lady. My thoughts and prayers go out
to her and her family. Norma's got someone watching over her now! :angel2:

Just coming to post. This is good news.

WOW! Time for justice for Norma and her family now.... so thankful for this arrest.

Father of slain Moreno Valley teen waited ‘so long’ for justice"

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/10/norma-lopez-moreno-valley-arrest.html

"One feels content, at the same time the pain comes again,'' Martin Lopez, 45, said in Spanish. "We have been waiting for so long, but we have relied on God to bring us this day and for the police to keep doing their job. It's been more than a year … But at last we had faith in God and he provided justice.''

Suspect in Moreno Valley teen's killing lived near abduction site

The suspect arrested in the kidnapping and murder of a Moreno Valley teenager lived a block from the empty field where she was abducted near her school, records show.

Jesse Perez Torres, who was arrested Thursday, lived on Creekside Way in Moreno Valley, a short distance from the field where Norma Lopez, 17, was kidnapped near Valley View High School, records show.

According to court records, Torres had been charged with battery on a spouse or cohabitant and assault with a deadly weapon in February 2010 in Moreno Valley. The case was dismissed in September 2010 when the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said that they were unable to locate the victim on the day the trial was to begin.

Wow, so it wasn't Tasby... That explains why there was never any follow up to the original search. I bet it turned out he found himself in the unenviable position of being the perfect circumstantial suspect (worked at the victim's school + drove the right kind of car + had a bunch of arrests/convictions for petty offenses) while actually having nothing to do with what happened.

This is great news! I'm a bit shocked it wasn't Tasby, but glad LE kept working it.

"MORENO VALLEY, Calif. -- A man arrested last week on suspicion of kidnapping and killing a 17-year-old girl has been released and re-arrested, according to Riverside County prosecutors.

Prosecutors had not filed charges against Jesse Perez Torres within the required 48 hours after he was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder and kidnapping to commit rape in the death of Norma Lopez, said John Hall, spokesman for the district attorney.

As a result, Torres was released Monday and immediately re-arrested."
