GUILTY CA - Ryan Chamberlain charged in deadly toxin case, San Francisco, June 2014

I heard last night, and almost posted about it, that the initial tip about explosives or some danger came as a result of some incident and subsequent arrest in Sacramento last month. I don't know if last month means about a month ago or if it means May (and now its June).

I don't think the Sacramento incident actually involved Chamberlain. I didn't post because it all seemed too vague.

It still seems vague but, maybe we will learn more soon.

I'm wondering since I read about this Professor who killed herself last year with sodium azide if that might be what RC had? If mixed with water or acid can be deadly and it's used to trigger explosives. Also, it's what triggers car air bags when in a crash.

Chemical suicide victim was UC Berkeley professor

Facts About Sodium Azide

After reading up on it, I found a forum where several people were going to buy 500 grams. One person with a business license was going to purchase it and send off the half to 3 more buyers...They seemed to chicken out. Sciencemadness is the site. Scary place actually even if some are just science geeks.

It may not be that exact chemical but something similar? jmo

FBI: San Francisco suspect had material that could cause great harm

According to the criminal complaint obtained by KTVU, a messenger bag was discovered in Chamberlain's kitchen that contained:
•A screw-top jar containing batteries and a powdery, green substance
•A model rocket motor lodged within the green powdery substance
•A 'electric match' -- a common igniter for improvised explosive devices
•An assortment of ball bearings and screws believed to be intended projectiles
•A wire extending from the glass jar attached to the metal lid of jar
•A circuit board configured as a remote-controlled receiver

Okay, so after reading the complaint, I gather it all started with or has something to do with the Tor Network and 'black market' poker websites that Chamberlain had accessed.

Police, FBI Arrest S.F. Man Wanted in Explosives Case

According to the complaint, FBI special agent Michael Eldridge met with Chamberlain in a coffee shop on May 31, where Chamberlain admitted “that he was aware of the Tor network, and that he sometimes played poker on ‘black market’ websites.” Chamberlain was then allowed to leave the coffee shop and returned to his apartment, but agents following him called off the pursuit when he drove recklessly through stoplights and at a high speed. Acting on a search warrant, agents then entered Chamberlain’s apartment.

I would surmise that he more than likely purchased some of the items found in his apartment via the Tor network. Generally, when inquiries are made regarding certain topics/items via internet search, particularly on the 'black market' interwebs, that old saying 'big brother is watching' proves itself on up. I would wager that is why he was sought out, questioned, and then his residence searched. I would wager he knew that too, thus why he fled.

Apparently Chamberlain also had another apartment on Vallejo Street which FBI was at today. - from TV nbcbayarea

This is the NBC Bay Area 6 o'clock news from tonight. Story and video.

"FBI agents and San Francisco police spent part of the day Tuesday searching a second flat Chamberlain rented on Vallejo Street, a few miles away from his Polk Street apartment.

Landlord Douglas Kwan said he is concerned.

“My fear is the worst-case scenario where somebody has explosives in their other apartment,” Kwan said. “I assume there could be explosives here and that's my biggest fear.”

Kwan said he suspected Chamberlain had been illegally subletting the Vallejo flat, so he hired a private investigator to follow Chamberlain. When confronted, Chamberlain claimed he was renting the Polk Street place for his girlfriend to protect her from a stalker.

Kwan said fears he may have been Chamberlain's target.

“Given the fact we're trying to evict him for illegal fraud, I feel he may have wanted to get me,” Kwan said."

So much subterfuge going on. My goodness!

This story has pretty much dropped from the news for right now. Nothing new being reported except for some info KTVU reported.

This KTVU article/video from last nights news:

Sources reveal new details on items found in San Francisco bomb suspect's apartment
By David Stevenson
KTVU.com

"SAN FRANCISCO — Sources told KTVU Saturday's search of Ryan Chamberlain's Polk Street apartment in San Francisco yielded more than materials investigators allege could be used to create a bomb."

*

"Sources told KTVU, when investigators searched his apartment they found a long gun - possibly a .22 rifle - with its serial number filed off, and a chemical test on a residue found in the apartment tested positive for explosive material.

Sources said it was a separate substance from what the FBI is describing as a powdery, green material seen in a messenger bag, along with ball bearings, screws and a circuit board the FBI alleges were gathered to create an explosive device."

FBI: Chamberlain sought toxins on the deep web
Vivian Ho and Kurtis Alexander
Updated 3:30 pm, Friday, June 6, 2014

(06-06) 15:26 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- "Ryan Chamberlain, the San Francisco political and media consultant who was arrested this week for allegedly possessing bomb-making materials at his apartment, was the subject of an FBI raid because he was seeking "illegal toxins" on a black market website, according to newly released court documents.

The FBI filings allege that Chamberlain sought to buy abrin, a natural poison found in rosary pea seeds, among other illicit chemicals, and to have the toxins shipped to his Polk Street apartment."

*

"The FBI affidavit states that the investigation that brought agents to Chamberlain's home began last year with a larger probe of the online marketplace Black Market Reloaded, where people bought and sold guns, bombs, drugs, chemicals and counterfeit goods."

Man, I just don't know what to think about this. He claims he sought some of these things out during a dark time when he was feeling suicidal, that he only wanted to hurt himself, not others. But why use a bomb to kill oneself? Why did he go into hiding when he knew the FBI was looking for him? Why did he post a suicide note online and then not follow through? I'm not ready to condemn him yet (need more info), but it doesn't look good right now. KWIM?

So far, its hard to tell if it was his intent to do away with himself, or others.
