Experienced Camper, Huntington Beach Woman Missing In Inyo County

"INYO COUNTRY (CBSLA) — A 60-year-old Huntington Beach woman — described as an “experienced” camper — is missing in Inyo County.

    Sheryl Powell’s dog also disappeared.

The woman’s husband told authorities that his wife and the dog disappeared on Friday around 2 in the afternoon at Grandview Campground.

Powell is described as 5-feet 3-inches tall and about 120 pounds. The dog is 5 pounds with black and white coloring.

Powell’s husband said his wife went to take the dog for a bathroom break while he parked the car.

After searching the area for about an hour, he called law enforcement for help.

Search and Rescue crews are looking for Powell by air and by ground."

Her daughter on the Inyo County Sheriff FB says they were 1 mile west of Grandview Campground. Her son Greg gave the exact coordinates of 37.330353, -118.199837.

"They had found a campsite and she got out of the car with our dog to wait in the shade while he turned the car around and backed up the hill. This took 5 minutes or less but when he got back she and Miley were gone without a trace. They keep insisting she just got lost (she didn’t bring any food or water and had no plans to hike yet, they were just setting up camp) or the dog got away (she weighs 4 lbs was on a leash and has a bad leg so she can’t run"

Based on those coordinates...where would an abductor be? How would they escape with a woman and a dog, without being seen? If abducted, why take the dog? Why didn't dog bark?
Her son mentions her footprints at the site, so...where did the footprints go? If they see footprints, do they see drag marks, or did they just stop? Like she was plucked off the earth? Scuffle? She looks to be a feisty woman, in good shape, if not taken completely by surprise and knocked unconscious, I'm betting she would fight like hell.
It's obvious that LE isn't treating this as a missing person/possible abduction.
Something very weird here. She was an incredibly experiences hiker. She certainly wouldn't have just wandered away and then couldn't find her way back in a couple MINUTES.
Have LE verified that she was in fact, at the campsite?

So I'm guessing that it was the husband who stated that SP got out of the car to let the dog relieve itself. And then the daughter states SP got out with the dog to sit in the shade.

Wow, Very strange account of what happened mostly because of the very short amount of time she was alone. A total crime of opportunity? Looking up campground on google earth....Sure hope she is OK!!!

Heres a tad bit of info about Grandview Campground. It looks like its out in the middle of no where but its known for star gazing, map included.....https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recarea/?recid=20268

They were one mile away from Grandview, though, according to her daughter and those coordinates.

No campground = no other eyeballs around, sadly.

How many people were there? Was it just Mr. and Mrs. Powell?

This doesn't make any sense. She and the lame 5 pound dog were alone for 5 minutes while he parked the car and they vanished? Did she run away?

I'll bet it's very easy to have an accident in the area, or for wildlife to attack a 4 lb dog. What I am very uneasy about is the husband's inability to see or hear a commotion in an area that probably echos like crazy. No dog yipping, no cry's for help. Reminds me of a case right out of that series of books missing 411.

I'd like confirmation of the last time anyone (besides her husband) has seen or heard from her. Prayers.

A abdutor waiting for someone to show up doesn't make any sense at all. Unlikely he or she would wait for hours
for the opportunely to kidnap a lady. No reason to walk far if their dog needed to do his business.
A proper search and rescue they bring in search dogs. Search dogs do a amazing job looking for lost hikers.
I hope she is found safe.

I'm sure the sheriff office will investigate the last time someone besides her husband saw or heard from her. Most gas stations have camera's if they stopped for gas.

Huntington Beach Woman and Dog Reported Missing Near Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest
A search and rescue team responded with a California Highway Patrol helicopter with thermal imagining technology, and have been searching the area for more than two days.

Powell’s daughter, Farrah Powell, said her parents were about a mile away from the campground in a secluded site when her mom vanished.

The daughter said Powell did not have food or water with her when she went missing.

Has it been stated if the wife and husband had cell phones? Wonder if there is service in this area?

I've read an online review of the area that states there is no service in the area. Husband utilized his satellite radio to call LE for help.

I'm doubting from this that there is service in the area.
