Family 'moving on' after disappearance

Randy Cuddy was the devoted type, always there for his children and grandchildren.

So when he went missing more than three years ago, his family was adamant that Cuddy — who had just welcomed a new grandchild — couldn’t have just walked away.

Nearly three weeks after he disappeared, Cuddy’s car was found in a remote area near the Mojave River in Victorville. His cell phone was inside the car, but there was no sign of the 60-year-old Apple Valley resident.

The discovery added more questions for his sons and daughters, who wondered what happened to their father

Then, on Nov. 6, part of that mystery was solved via a phone call from the sheriff's department.

Terri Scheerer, Cuddy’s adopted daughter, learned that bones found near the Cemex plant in Victorville were his.

Scheerer said that despite the possibility of never knowing for sure what happened to her father — or who was logged in his Facebook account, among many other questions — finally finding him has brought some closure.

“I think at this point most of my family is OK with moving on,” she said. “Sometimes you don’t have the answers and maybe it’s just God’s way of helping us move on without answers that are a little tough to look at.”
