10-year-old boy was confined for up to two years in a bedroom and found in filthy conditions, his pyjamas and bedding soaked in urine

“The room — in fact, the entire house — was in squalid condition,” Det.-Insp. Heslop said. “The bedroom had food waste, feces and urine on the floor and on the bed.”

Based on what I heard on the radio, this poor kid arrived in Canada in 2010 and his aunt and uncle were his official guardians. His parents apparently don't live in Canada. Details are sketchy due to the laws here which protect the identity of underage victims.

I can't imagine what this poor kid went through. He hasn't been outside in almost 2 years. His request is that he wants to go to school.
How could his relatives treat him this way??

The boy was discovered after an anonymous tip to Children's Aid. An aid worker visited the house, but no one was home. She saw the silhouette of the boy through the curtain and called police.

Police said the boy has never been to school and speaks minimal English. He was not born in Canada, they believe. His biological parents are not in Canada at the moment. Police are not releasing the boy's country of origin because it might identify him.

The couple facing charges have a biological child,a nine-year-old girl, who was also living in the house at the time. That child is also now in the care of Children's Aid. Police said there is no evidence that the couple's biological child was confined inside the house.

The adult son of one of the accused charged with keeping a boy locked in a southeast London bedroom for up to two years was reeling Saturday from the shocking allegations.

The young man, who doesn’t live in London, and is apparently estranged from the couple, said he only learned about the story that made national headlines when a family friend and former roommate sent him a message on Skype.

I'm not sure I believe this guy, but I do have empathy for him. He says that he thought his parents were dead. Perhaps that was wishful thinking. Apparently (based on previous new articles) Children's Aid was called in when he was a kid.

What I find interesting is that he wants to see his sister, but doesn't express any interest in seeing his cousin (the one locked up in the room).

Bad times for all.
