5 people, including 2 teens, found dead inside Oshawa home after shooting: police
''Two teenagers are believed to be among the five people found dead inside an Oshawa home early this morning following a shooting at the residence.''

“We had multiple units responding from all our divisions, including our tactical support unit,” Tudos said.

“When they arrived on scene, they actually did also hear what they believed to be gunshots coming from a residence. They were eventually able to enter one of the residences here on Parklane, where they made a grisly discovery."

Police initially said four people were found dead inside the home but later confirmed that a fifth body was subsequently located.''

“We believe that one of the deceased inside that residence is the alleged suspect,” he told reporters.''

''Neighbours told CP24 that a husband and wife, who work as teachers, have lived at the residence with their four children for many years and had recently returned home after spending time at a cottage.''

Five people were found dead in a home east of Toronto after an early morning shooting, police say.

''Const. George Tudos, spokesperson for the Durham Regional Police Service, said multiple callers reported hearing gunshots inside the Oshawa residence, located near the corner of Harmony Road and Parklane Avenue, around 1:20 a.m. ET.''

''Michele Heroux, a nearby neighbour who has lived in the area for nearly 30 years, said she heard up to 10 gunshots and screaming coming from the home. ''

''A white pickup truck with Manitoba licence plates is still parked outside the residence, and Tudos said it is part of the investigation.

Heroux said she had never seen the truck before.''

''Four males and one female are among the dead, police confirmed on Friday morning.

Tudos said a woman who was also found inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.''

''The deceased victims, Tudos said, are believed to be three adults and two children in their early teens.

“We are still waiting for the coroner to attend and hopefully he will give us a little bit more information as to ages and identification of the deceased parties,” he added.

Tudos said police are not currently searching for any suspects and investigators believe the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.''

''Police say they are also investigating whether an unknown white Ford pickup truck with Manitoba plates found parked on the street overnight is connected to the case.

“Right now it is part of our crime scene and it will be towed away and our forensic investigators will be taking a quicker look at it. It is going to be under examination and (we will) determine how it is connected to the case,” Tudos said.

“Right now it is too early to say its involvement in this case, whether it is related to the suspect or not.”

''Family friends and neighbours said the residents of the home are Chris and Loretta Traynor, along with their four children, Sam, Brad, Adelaide and Joseph.

Neighbours describe hearing multiple gunshots

Noticed this obit from 2019, wondering if there is a connection? speculation,
imo.

“UPDATE: Police in Oshawa say all the people involved in today's deadly house shooting were family members and they were known to each other. Investigators don't believe the shooter lived at the house where 5 people were found dead. Previous story:”

The story above says a 50 year old woman was shot in the leg, but survived.

There is a truck with Manitoba license plates in the driveway that neighbours say they have never seen before.

From the obituary you found...Mitchell Lapa of Winnipeg is named.

The deceased teachers had four children?

This is so awful.
Will no doubt be extra stress for kids going back to school, cannot even imagine what the mother is going through now, imo. rbbm.

''A neighbour identified the parents who reside in the home to the Sun as Loretta and Christopher Traynor and said Loretta is the victim in hospital. Police have yet to confirm the names of the victims or the status of the home owners, but said those involved are family members.

The Traynors are teachers, according to neighbours, and Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School students took to social media to share condolence messages for Christopher. A spokesman for the Durham District Catholic School Board would not comment while awaiting police to identify the victims but told the Sun, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are impacted by this tragedy.”

Five people found dead inside Oshawa home were family members: police
''Shortly before 3:30 p.m., police said they found a suspicious item inside the residence. As a precaution, police cleared the scene as a bomb disposal unit was called to investigate.

"We want to make sure that safety comes first," Tudos said.

Around 5 p.m., police said the item has been determined as not a threat and the residence has been deemed safe.''

“Family identified the victims as Chris Traynor, a teacher at Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School in Oshawa, and his three children: Bradley Traynor, a student at the University of Guelph, Adelaide Traynor, a Grade 10 student, and 11-year-old Joseph Traynor.

The injured woman was identified by family as 50-year-old Loretta Traynor, who is the mother of the children and Chris’s wife. Police said she was taken to hospital with a serious, but non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Loretta also works as a teacher. A fourth child, who family members said attends Queen’s University, was not home during the time of the shooting.”

In the article above, sources named Winnipeg resident Mitchell Lapa as the alleged killer. Sources also said he and his sister, who was injured, were involved in a dispute over their father’s will.

Wow, tragic. Thankfully the injured mother has one of her children surviving and that will be enough to give her a reason to keep living. Seems her brother was not married at time of their father's death in 2019 and has no kids of his own. Her 4 children are the only grandkids named in the obit posted upthread.

''CTV News Toronto has also learned that the mother of the children was shot and taken to hospital but is expected to make a full recovery. The couple were both teachers.

The body of a fifth person, who police believe to be the suspect and say is related to the deceased, was located inside the home and investigators say he sustained what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He has been identified as 48-year-old Mitchell Lapa, of Dalhousie Drive in Winnipeg. In a news release, police said Lapa is a relative of the family and was an uninvited person at the home.

"It was quite a chaotic scene. Even for the residents in the area. A lot of callers calling in stating that they were hearing a lot of the gunshots, a lot of screaming coming from this residence,” Durham Regional Police Const. George Tudos told reporters on Friday morning.''

"A lot of people did hear the gunshots and contacted 911 immediately so we were here within minutes."
