A decade after the death of a 13-year-old Prince George, B.C., boy, a trial is underway for the man accused of his killing.

Opening statements began Tuesday in Prince George as 51-year-old Lloyd Cook faces charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, forcible confinement and committing an indignity to human remains.

Cook was the common-law partner of Adam Williams' mother in Jan. 2000 when the teenager disappeared.

The boy's remains were not found until 2004 when his mother, Judy Williams, led police to the body buried along the Nechako river near Prince George.

Cook was not charged until May, 2009 when an undercover operation ended with his arrest in Penticton.

Williams is also facing charges, but will be tried separately on charges including failing to provide the necessities of life.
