OTTAWA – A retired federal court judge has been found dead, tied to a chair and severely beaten in his luxury condominium, along with his wife and an elderly neighbour, media reports say.

Family member or someone judged by him in the past? This sounds horrible. I'm so sad for that family and neighbor for what they went through.

Seems like security was pretty tight in his building though. Hopefully they'll find the person responsible soon.

Danielle Dufault, a resident of the building, says security there is extremely tight. "It is a gated community," with a security guard at the gate, surveillance cameras, she said, and "you have to use a special key to get in."

Her husband Robert Dufault says "You don't get in there unless you know somebody."

That's from Alta's link - hopefully the surveillance cameras will provide the authorities a suspect. How horrible for these folks! You're supposed to be able to feel safe in your own home.

    Mystery over triple murder

    ......................snip..................

Ottawa police said yesterday they have no suspects and no motive behind the triple homicide.

Garon and his wife had attended a friend's birthday party on Thursday, according to friends Adrienne and Lysette St. Cyr.

At the dinner, Garon told the couple that she had been surprised by a knock on her door that morning.

Garon opened the door expecting to see a neighbour. Instead, there was an apparent delivery driver.

"He said he had a package for her, but had forgotten it and would come back the next day," said St. Cyr. "She said it was strange."

Sounds like there are charges coming in this case....and what a strange one it is.

The apparent suspect was charged with a home invasion, robbing a 101 year old man. Reports also indicate that he sent a fax to the retired tax judge several months before the judge was murdered (along with his wife and an elderly neighbour.

"Norm Bush said Ian volunteered for years in minor baseball and that Ian was a soccer coach before then.

"Ian has always been a friendly, nice guy and good family member known for his volunteer work. That's the way we know Ian," Norm Bush said'

    guess he fooled everyone

I wanted to add this to the thread of Ernest Cote the 101 yr old veteran that was attacked in December 2014 at his condo but search doesn't respond to my attempts. Hope mods can link this post. Thank you.

Sadly, the surveillance camera didn't catch a single photo. They were just live feeds. And there were no cameras by the building's entrance or in the halls anyway. :( It's also sad that it took so long for the fake summons to a 'court' in his home that Bush is alleged to have sent Judge Garon - which Garon asked to be placed in Bush's tax file - to be found.

I have asked Mods to check on it because I was pretty sure this had been discussed here at WS -- as it was just prior to Christmas......I have experienced difficulty in past day using search function....it's not pulling up active cases at all...perhaps there has been issue with tags??

the accused was definitely discussed here at WS circa Dec 2014.....

Just in case I am ''mis-remembering'' LOL

started a new thread today on this so we can link the two together ((as they are related))

    http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...ed-in-his-home-robbed&p=11496007#post11496007

given that it was so soon after the horrific crime of the murders of the reservist in Ottawa and the soon to be retired solder in Quebec...we may have discussed this in the threads of the Ottawa/PQ cases...MOO

Since it's too late to edit my post, I wanted to correct an error I made....I said that the strange fax was sent to the judge several months before he was murdered, when in fact, it was 6 years before he was murdered. Sorry about that.

This case and the connection to the elderly vet is shocking and bizarre!
Wonder if we are going to eventually learn about other crimes potentially connected to the suspect?

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/man-charged-with-robbing-veteran-deemed-fit-to-stand-trial/article23113439/

I'm finding it difficult to believe that those close to the suspect are in complete denial. I can't imagine that they didn't see him exhibit certain behaviours over the years that would signal behavioural problems. Just reading his twitter messages shows a man who seems angry about a lot of things and who had an immense dislike of civil servants and government in general..anyone who might benefit from taxpayer's dollars or who might restrict his freedoms in any way.

Of course this is just my impression from things that the suspect published for all to see.

Just came across this article from yesterday, which confirms that behaviour issues were evident to many over the years....
