How could she just disappear from her home? Any signs of break-in? Who last saw her? Was her son at home at the time? So many questions!

My impression of Newfoundland is that it's sparsely populated enough that "everyone knows everyone." That's only my impression from a couple thousand miles away. Is that close to accurate? And wouldn't that make it difficult for someone to disappear, unlike in a major metro area like Toronto or New York City?

What's going on in Canada?. There is quite a few missing people on the board. I don't know how far apart they all are, but it's strange.

The city of St John's where this lady is missing from has a population of over 175,000.

The whole population of Newfoundland and Labrador is over 500,00. but it is sparcely populated. and there are many small towns and villages so everyone does not everyone else....LOL

If it was a state in the USA then it would be the 4th largest state behind
    Alaska, Texas and California

I don't think there has been a large increase in people missing in Canada.

The reason I think there are more Canadians who are now members of WS

    reporting these cases

so that is why it seems like an increase in missing people.

Wawa is in Northern Ontario. Not sure how long Ann has been in Newfoundland. There is a facebook group setup to help find Ann:

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=141568745869039#!/group.php?gid=141568745869039&v=info

It sounds like she left her home around 10pm with just her purse to go for a walk and didn't return.

    Personal observations:
I have been in Newfoundland as recently as last December - there is no way off that island other than air or sea. It is a rock - all rock and water. I don't think there would be anyway to hide on any part of Newfoundland - especially if you are 6 feet tall with reddish/auburn hair. Ann would most certainly stand out in any crowd in Newfoundland. I have been in Newfoundland several times on business and most of the women there would be about 5'6'' to 5'8'' on average - Ann would stand out. Most folks in Newfoundland are from Irish descent. Historical note: Marconi sent the first radio signal from Signal Hill, Newfoundland - this is in St. John's (the area that Ann went missing from) - it is all hills, rocks and water. Beautiful but many, many places in and around St. John's that would be hard to investigate.

    Come home soon Ann.

Search for woman moves deep into Goulds
    Published on July 26th, 2010

The search for a missing Kilbride woman has moved to the Cochrane Pond Road area of the Goulds.

Crews have stopped searching for 32-year-old Ann Marie Shirran around Brennan Field near her home in Kilbride after covering about three square kilometres.

Since Shirran’s disappearance on July 18, search and rescue crews have also combed through all of Bowring Park plus other trails and Petty Harbour-Long Pond via boat.

    Crime unit investigating

The matter is also being investigated by the RNC’s major crime unit.

Harry Blackmore, Rovers Search and Rescue team co-ordinator, couldn’t say why the Cochrane Pond Road area is of interest.

What a desolate area to be searching for Ann Marie. Haven't heard yet whether the search has resumed today or not (14th) - almost a month now since Ann Marie disappeared.
