Understandably she's probably freaked out, probably feels guilty and what not, nothing stops her from contacting the parents and remaining anonymous doing so. The police know who she is, it might even leak one day. I would not want to always feel worried and stressed about that.

When the father said I want to know what he was wearing, he knows that everyone knows what he was wearing, it was more like " tell me everything you know about my son" I want to live what you lived kinda thing. Not confrontational.

A little bit of Lost in translation going on in this thread.

Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Service's water rescue squad found the jacket of young Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou who has been missing since last Monday while they were doing tests on the ice for tomorrow's search.
More details to come.

Hopefully this is allowed.

Have we seen or heard any updates on the coat since this information came out? TIA!

Police bring in specialized canine unit as search resumes for missing Montreal boy

Montreal police were accompanied Friday morning by a dog to search the Rivière des Prairies, which borders the park.
The dog, which was was brought to Montreal from Nova Scotia, specializes in searching for missing persons in bodies of water and ice.
In the nearly three weeks that Ariel has been missing, divers have searched the frigid waters separating Montreal and Laval several times without success.

Police searching the Rivière-des-Prairies once again for Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou. They’ve called in @CanBorder-they’ll bring a special camera normally used during drug searches. It’ll allow them to look under the water.

Video at link.

Walking the dog along the shore seems like a very good idea.

Was the jacket found in the water, by the water, on the shore?

If it was 'found while they were doing tests on the ice' ---sounds like he is in the water.... :rose:

Is this new information from today, or is this related to the rumour that circulated at the time that the volunteer fell through the ice?

Amazing the level of specialization in some of these working dogs. Let's hope Doc is able to bring some new focus to the search.

Seems like the rumour resurfacing. My understanding was since it's never been reported in MSM, it had nothing to do with Ariel.

I think it was the coat belonging to the person who fell through the ice.

The go-fund-me campaing is still trending. $32,602 atm.
I guess this is on top of the $100 K

Editing to add that when I clicked the link that says: "Translate story to English" I was kind of shocked to read: "...following the ____ of their son..."
That's not what is written in French.

That's terrible. Especially as immediately below the original French on the page is a more accurate/fluent, and much more tactful, translation that presumably was supplied by the campaign organizers. Yet few English-only readers are likely to scroll down that far to see the good translation if they first see a "translate story" button above a wall of French text.

needs to back off and let the campaign organizer(s) tell their own story. When an organizer supplies a full translation, there is no need for another link to an inferior automated translation, let alone one that draws unsupported conclusions. I'm going to try to contact before more viewers see the poor translation and assume it is based on fact.

The search for Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou, who has been missing for nearly three weeks, will resume on Saturday in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

Dozens of volunteers are expected to participate in the searches of the area where the 10-year-old boy was last seen.

"Today, we were circling with police," said volunteer Mamadou Cisse. "We think (Kouakou) has been kidnapped and that's the way we want the police to look for him."

On Saturday, a large-scale volunteer search is planned of Bataliers Park, where Kouakou was last seen. Cisse said the hope is that now that the snow is mostly melted, signs of the boy that had previously been hidden might be found.

Interesting that the volunteers have decided how they want police to search for Ariel! I could see that as a reasonable request if that request was based on at least one fact that supported the "kidnapping" theory. I wonder how police feel about having volunteers telling them how they should do their jobs - it must be a socio-political challenge to continue following the evidence while volunteers want them to stop doing that.

day 18 of the search
LE says all theories remain open.

new VIDEO from yesterday's search:

- shows Doc, the RCMP dog, searching in the icy cold water. He is trained to locate things that are buried far underground, and even human remains.

also shows
- the boat equipped with submarine camera to dive deep.

- family insists this is not where Ariel is, and are organizing their own hunt for clues, and they are expecting hundreds of volunteers to show up on Saturday. [today]

- family has called in the help of Quebec Secours.

Police are on record stating that they have not ruled out anything in their investigation, so why wouldn't the family and some volunteers search outside the park or pitch their theory to LE? The bulk of the volunteers seem to be following LE's theory of drowning, with almost 200 searching the park today, as well as a search on Friday. Bravo to Montreal volunteers, their dedication has not waned over time. I am very impressed and grateful for each one of their efforts.

"Police believe he most likely fell in the water and drowned, a theory that Kouakou's family and SOME volunteers have rejected."

We know that police have said they are open to all possibilities, but, at the same time, after their door to door searches, interviews with witnesses, and review of CCTV footage, police have focused exclusively on searching in the water and river banks.
