Found Deceased Canada - Bertha Hanson, 73, Nanaimo, BC, 22 Oct 2017

I hope she’s OK. Getting lost is a hazard of mushroom picking as the BC government points out in their brochure on the subject.

Know how to read maps and use a compass to ensure that when you enter the forest to pick mushrooms, you can safely return to your campsite or vehicle. Accurate maps or aerial photographs are available for a fee. Every mushroom season is marked by lost mushroom harvesters Search and rescue activities cost taxpayers thousands of dollars each year.

Bertha Hanson's vehicle was found in a remote area west of the Nanaimo airport, near Timberlands Road and Ninatti Road.

Search and rescue crews, an RCMP helicopter and a canine team are involved in the effort.

Hanson has no known medical conditions, but is not believed to be dressed for an extended stay in the wilderness.

No clothing description is available for Hanson, but she carries a camera in a red Molson Canadian cooler bag.

Bumping the thread every few days at the beginning can bring it to the attention of other members who might have something to contribute, though. I’ve seen threads I might not have seen...only because they were bumped. I agree that too frequent bumping can be annoying, however. It gets our hopes up for no reason.

Here’s an informative article I hadn’t seen. Her name is Bertha but she goes by Faye. She sounds lovely!

“She is a very slight woman, but strong. She has cousins spread all over Western Canada. She is well loved.”
Hanson loves spending time outdoors and was a moderator on the Facebook group Hiking and Foraging Finds, a forum where people can share their discoveries while hiking, foraging and hunting.
Her Facebook page is filled with photos of wildlife, flowers and trees. In December, she posted a photo of her standing among moss-covered trees with a quote attributed to American naturalist John Muir: “Into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul.”

Checking whether there's any news on Faye.
None that I could find, only a comment on a FB page from someone who asked if she had been found, the response was "not yet". (scroll down..)

I hope they are still searching...so want to see a positive outcome for this lovely lady.

Faye's facebook, looks like she really loves the outdoors...

She also helps moderate this hiking/outdoors group and there is lots of comments. They put the group on a posting hold since Faye went missing.

Ohhhh, such sad news. :(

This is heartbreaking to hear. I only hope it was something sudden, not that she was lost or injured and lingered through nights and days....

I'm so sorry for all her loved ones, family and her friends.
Rest in peace dear Faye....
