Canada - Canadian hockey team fatal bus accident tragedy, 6 April 2018

A hockey player paralyzed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash says he is thrilled with the progress he’s made since receiving spinal surgery in Thailand a month ago.

Doctors implanted an epidural stimulator in Ryan Straschnitzki‘s spine and one week later injected stem cells above and below the injury to try to reverse some of the damage.

The 20-year-old has just a week to go before returning home to Airdrie, Alta.

‘Loss for words’: Injured Humboldt Bronco Ryan Straschnitzki shocked, excited after spinal surgery

Thank you for all the updates Tarabull @tarabull I am so so glad Ryan is doing well after his surgery.

Visited Humboldt recently, just having a look back. Dealing with life isn't easy & death even more so. The ripple from this tragedy spread far & wide.

The link below from early April 2018 offered a glimpse into who each of the victims were as human beings. It's still mind numbing to realize everything that was lost that day, it makes a heart very heavy.

If you feel the need to be inspired about life, or even more important YOUR FUTURE, read on...

Stephen Wack, (only 21!!) a defenceman, who played for the Broncos for two seasons, was also an exceptional videographer!!! Less than a month prior to the bus crash, he posted this video here

If you are wondering what does (Sam Kolder inspired) mean?!?!?! The answer is here

To Stephen: Thanks for the motivation & inspiration - I really needed it. Such a talented young man, there's no doubt Sam would be amazed by your work. Hope you are resting easy.

What a great tribute by Peace River to the coach of the Broncos who was originally from there, who died in the crash.

“.....Haugan was remembered over the weekend as a coach who pushed his players to bring their very best to the rink and to their personal lives.

"We were all devastated when we heard the news in April 2018. Like many in our community, it was hard to digest, hard to comprehend what had happened," town councillor Orren Ford said at the unveiling of the statue on Saturday in Peace River, Alta., occasionally wiping away tears.....

......Ford said Haugan saw his players as "full and complete men, not just as hockey players."

"He made it his mission to mold them into men he knew they could be — men who cared about their family and their community in addition to their team and the sport of hockey," he said.“

REGINA — Lawyers for the Saskatchewan government are to be in a Regina courtroom Wednesday to ask a judge to remove the province from a lawsuit filed by families of victims of the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

'An insult to the families:' Saskatchewan government wants out of Broncos lawsuit

From your link -
But lawyers for the hockey families argue the province should accept responsibility for chronic inaction at the rural intersection where the crash happened in April 2018.”

I don’t quite understand this. If the families hope to hold the Govt of Sask responsible for the allegedly unsafe condition of the intersection, then how can JSS be held responsible for causing the accident?

Upon his sentencing to 8 years in prison, the Judge stated -

In her sentencing decision, Judge Inez Cardinal said Sidhu had many chances to stop before the collision. She also said it was inconceivable he missed the intersection's many large signs, including flashing lights.”

So now it’s a battle of lawsuits, who’s first out the gate. My opinion only but if the Judge strikes the Prov of Sask as a defendant, any lawsuit against the driver and trucking company is a waste of time and energy. Brings to mind...I wonder if the families and survivors are satisfied with the final distribution of the $15 million donation from the public, but no word in the media about that at all.

Some Humboldt Broncos families angry over request in court to delay lawsuit
“A battle between lawsuits related to the Humboldt Broncos bus crash is to be heard in a Regina courtroom this week.

Eleven lawsuits were filed after the crash on April 6, 2018. Sixteen people died and 13 were injured when the driver of a semi-truck blew a stop sign and drove into the path of the junior hockey team’s bus near Tisdale, Sask.

Lawyers for a proposed class action waiting for certification plan to ask a judge Friday to delay another lawsuit filed by five of the victims’ families until that’s done.....

.......Lawyers for the Saskatchewan government recently argued in court that, because of the province’s no-fault insurance, it should be struck as a defendant from the class action. A judge has not yet ruled on that application.”
