An incredible outcome. I'm usually dubious over the notion that someone could be missing for so long because they forgot their identity but this is proof that such a thing can occur.

Man suddenly remembers who he is, solves his own cold case

A Canadian man solved his own cold case — by suddenly remembering his identity 30 years after he disappeared.

Edgar Latulip was 21 years old when he vanished from a group home in Kitchener, Ontario in September 1986.

Police concluded that Latulip had some kind of head injury that caused him to forget who he was.

“It’s the only case, that I know of, where we’ve been able to find someone who has been missing for this period of time,” Det. Duane Gingerich told CTV News.

According to some reports, he has schizophrenia, so it could have been a manifestation of his illness.

Really great news! I've often wondered if something similar might have happened to Jason Jolkowski (head injury, memory loss, left his area, is living somewhere else).

This story just blows me away. I've never heard any case quite like this. It gives me some hope for other missing person cases and makes me wonder if there are any other similar cases.

Actually, scientists have more questions than answers about amnesia.

fwiw, this story reminds me my worst fear ever. I have brain injury since birth, and this story shook me to the core.
I cannot even imagine how much suffering it is for Latulip not remembering about any of your identity.
I always carry my smartphone, in the very unlikely case I would forgot my identity. So unlikely, but I prefer not taking any chance.

I heard about it before, but I don't remember the specifics, sorry.
However, amnesia of such magnitude is actually rare.
