Found Deceased Canada - Frank Young, 5, Last seen @ Playground, Red Earth Cree Nation, Saskatchewan, 19 April 2022

Family last saw Frank about noon on April 19 outside his aunt and uncle’s home where he was living.

Family members began looking for him about 30 minutes later.

So, going by the article the aunt and uncle began searching around 12:30. Using the RCMP report places the time closer to 1 pm. Then about 2:30 someone (not the relatives) may have seen Frank at the playground.

From your link:

Frank is said to have been spotted about 2:30 p.m. the same day by another community member who has come forward, Mounties said.

“In our discussions with the family, Frank does not have a history of wandering off,” said Tonge.

“Frank does go to friends’ houses in the community, near his own house.”

RCMP do not believe the boy has been abducted and there haven’t been any sightings of him at community checkpoints set up around the First Nation.

Head said about 200 houses in the Red Earth community have been searched by crews, who also checked inside canoes, sheds and crawl spaces in and around homes.

My bolding.

I'm a bit concerned by these statements. Could Frank have gone to someone's home and either never made it or else gotten detained by the resident? IOW is a family friend involved?

Remember little Ashley Barr from Alaska? Kotzebue I think. Her killer was known to the family and had a reputation of assaulting local girls. He grabbed her while she was alone, playing in a nearby park.

Anyway, I see that msm refers to Frank going missing from his home near Carrot River, which is a town in SK. It's also a river. Has any article given more specific details on location? I'm having trouble with Google maps. I think I see Carrot River (the river, not the town) but it's not labeled. I assume this is where the water searches took place.

Google Maps

P.S. the community has been very involved in searching for Frank.

Google map for Red Earth Cree nation. There is a group of homes on Carrot River. The only playground i can find is at elementary school which is across road from only store...sells gas, food, smokes etc. On band land many many people are related so he will have many aunts, uncles, cousins he probaby visits. Moo

Rising water levels a concern for rescue crews searching for missing 5-year-old | The Star
''Chief Fabian Head estimated that the river in the search area is around 15 to 20 feet deep as of April 25th, having risen a significant amount due to ice breaks since the search began last week. The water levels are beginning to pose a risk to divers and search crews on boats and canoes.

“With the amount of snow on the ground this year, there is a need to be cautious,” he said. “Yesterday, ice on the river started to flow and we weren’t anticipating that until next week.”

Shoal Lake Chief Marcel Head added that ice jams along the narrower parts of the river are making searching by boat a challenge.''

''Police have hope that Young is still alive and the search will remain a rescue.
“History [and] previous searches have shown us that humans can be incredibly resilient,” said Carrot River RCMP Sgt. Richard Tonge. “That is why our efforts continue.”

If he had just wandered off, it seems he would have been found already.

It makes me think he may have been abducted or hidden by someone. :(

It's a remote wooded area with cold temps. Finding a child is like finding a needle in a haystack, especially if he's no longer giving off a heat signature. We also don't know exactly where his house is, if it's close to the river he could have gotten in.

A very similar situation happened a few years ago in the nearby city of Prince Albert (well, nearby by rural standards!) where a 4 year old boy went missing and was last seen by other kids at a playground near a river. His body was found 60km downstream 2 months later.

So much water around. I followed the road on Google. Even though the Carrot River doesn't run along side it, there are numerous deep ditches, creeks and estuaries and small lakes and ponds. A total nightmare to search. And to make matters worse where the road crosses the creeks and ponds the barriers are very low. So easy for a little kid to fall in when leaning over looking for fish or frogs. Even on Google they show images of loose ponies with no fencing with one appearing to be ready to walk over the bridge. Granted the images aren't current but seeing a loose pony on the road would be irresistable to a young child.

I worked for the OPP for many years. Many of the police officers who went on their first duration posting in remote communities like First Nations reserves were gobsmacked to see children as young as 6 or 7 casually walking down the road with a rifle slung over their shoulders looking for Canada geese. It's a different culture and a big learning curve for the officers stationed in such places. It's not unusual for children to wander to a friend's or relative's house without an escort. It would be no different in norther areas of other provinces overseen by the RCMP

Yeah, it's definitely a different culture. I try to be diplomatic when posting in threads because what's standard behaviour in Indigenous communities, especially remote ones, can be a lot different than what it is in colonial-derived ones. Stuff most people think was left behind in the 70s like hitchhiking, free range kids, young kids supervising younger ones, etc. are still commonplace.

I can't help but worry about all the water. It seems like most of our boys around Frank's age are ultimately found in rivers and lakes. I'm praying he isn't one of them. 9 days though, the chances of a safe recovery are slim.

Thanks @MrsWatson! Disappointing. Searchers are exhausted and seeking volunteers to help out. Many agencies, First Nation and government are participating.

Have searched 93 square km. A blue jacket was found but it’s not Frank’s.

Q & A… has search expanded to other communities?

No ground searches outside local yet. Leads are coming in.

No solid leads yet other than witness statements about sighting at playground. No evidence belonging to Frank has been found.

Searches focused primarily on area south of house, north of playground area.

No Amber alert, doesn’t fit criteria.

Rumor - Footprints found? Any found after snowfall can’t be determined to be Frank’s.

no evidence of abduction.

Rescue or recovery? Still rescue but as time passes concern grows.

SPSA - alternate provincial alert system in effect.

No evidence of what happened, can’t rule out or support criminal involvement.

Asking for thoughts and prayers. Any help appreciated. Next meeting Tuesday. End.

So no new developments. The Canadian press is a bit more conservative IMO - no inquiries regarding Frank’s family or situation. LE doesn’t seem to be concerned about his home life but I suspect RCMP is conducting a dual investigation, meaning searching and also checking out friends and family. MOO

Had to do Facebook sleuthing to find out answer to who was watching him. Not a lot of info out there, hope more details come out in the media so we can talk about it.

Mods, there's a post on the official Facebook page for the community that references the local radio station that has a post about who Frank's parents are and who was watching him. Because it's posts of posts I'm erring on the side of caution and not linking it, but since it's a Facebook page ran by the local government is it a safe source? The rules say LE and MSM Facebook pages are allowed but nothing about government/administration.

Very sorry we are not seeing your question until today.

Yes, FB pages of government agencies are an approved source, but only posts by the Administration are allowed for discussion (i.e. no comments by the general public are allowed for discussion).

It's always best to use the Report feature to enquire so that any Mods or Admins who are on the board are Alerted and can respond quickly.

More -

Tonge saidAmber Alerts are issued only when there's evidence a child has been abducted and there's concern for the child's safety.

"We don't have evidence of those things happening in this case," Tonge said.

However, he said, officers have no physical evidence of what happened to Frank, so they cannot rule out abduction or criminal involvement.
