Search for missing boy continues - SwiftCurrentOnline.com
''An Amber Alert has not been issued in this case, despite some calls for it from the community. The RCMP have previously stated that the criteria for an Amber Alert aren’t met in this situation, mainly that it isn’t a confirmed abduction. A Saskatchewan Emergency Advisory Alert, however, has been issued.

Young was last seen near his residence on Red Earth Cree Nation around 12:30 p.m. on April 19th, and may have been at the local playground. Investigators have no information that he was abducted. He is described as 4’ tall, weighing roughly 66 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing Paw Patrol rubber boots, blue and green dinosaur pajamas and a navy-blue windbreaker.''

Oh, little Frank, you're such a special little man. If only you could know that a real life Ryder and the largest PAW Patrol you've ever imagined have grabbed their hi-tech pup packs and loaded up their pup mobiles in search of you. Where'd you go, buddy? :( Dear God, please give the searchers a sign.

I have some questions that we probably won’t get an answer to
- Was he in a pyjamas at 12 pm? Was he not in school or pre-k that day? Or was is the weekend or Easter?
- He was last seen at home and then what?
- why was he living with his aunt and uncle and not parents?
Moo...
Pyjamas are now accepted as all day wear for children and adults. Re living with aunt and uncle.....it has to do with huge extended families. It is not a sign of his parents having issues. Many people are connected thru marriage to other bands but children usually grow up on band lands they are registered with, whereas the parents may move to different band lands with partner. Look at it as huge multi- generational family but instead of living in one house there is many homes...moo

There was no school that week, the week following Easter is always a break in Saskatchewan.

The search for a missing five-year-old Saskatchewan boy has entered its 16th day.

Frank Young was last seen outside his home on the Red Earth Cree Nation, 300 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon, on the afternoon of April 19. He was also seen at a playground in the northern part of the community.

At the time Young was living with his aunt and uncle. The boy's parents live at the Shoal Lake Cree Nation.

Carrot River RCMP provided an update on Wednesday. They said the community and area around it has been searched extensively.

‘Focus on the water’: Police update search for missing 5-year-old Saskatchewan boy | The Star
''RED EARTH CREE NATION, SASKATCHEWAN - The RCMP says it is switching its focus to the water in the search for a missing five-year-old Saskatchewan boy from the Red Earth Cree Nation.

Insp. Murray Chamberlin says about 90 square kilometres — including the community of Red Earth Cree Nation and surrounding area — have been searched for Frank Young.

“Search areas were decided upon based on the probability of how far a five-year-old could travel,” Chamberlin told a news conference Wednesday. “Those areas have been thoroughly searched at this point in time and they continue to be re-searched and covered again.”

“Over the next few days the Saskatchewan RCMP will be using boats and other methods to search the Carrot River for any sign of Frank.”

Chamberlin said ground searches continue to be hampered by melting snow.

“They were trying to use ATVs, which were getting stuck. Even searchers on foot ... they’re wet. It’s hard going. The spring runoff and melt has definitely complicated things.”

We all know by now this is a recovery operation. We see waterways beside roads as far as the eye can see. Beyond the roads is marsh and muskeg. Poor little boy. I don't know why the searchers didn't combine their efforts to include waterways earlier.

Wondering if the little guy crawled into a space of some kind to try to keep warm, maybe something like a culvert? speculation.

''RCMP still say there is no sign of abduction. They say all tips are being followed.

"We are still getting tips at this point. Many of them are visions or dreams, but they are followed up with. And at this time, none of those tips have given us any information about what happened to Frank," said Sergeant Richard Tonge, with the RCMP's Carrot River detachment.

Meanwhile, advocates are calling for an Indigenous alert system. First Nations groups say separate notifications are needed to help find missing Indigenous people whose disappearance doesn't fit the criteria for an Amber Alert.

"There's a lack of awareness, and when an Indigenous person goes missing, it's not taken seriously," said Aly Bear, third vice-chief of the FSIN.

"It's just on us, and we make the posts on Facebook, but it's not the same as alerting the whole community."

''Fabian Head said that as of Tuesday, 92 square kilometres have been searched around the community. That search has included 200 volunteers and 13 search groups.

Tong said he doesn't know when police will call off the search. He said the search is evaluated on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, crew continue to focus their search efforts on Carrot River. Tonge said a helicopter flies over the body of water every second day. ''

Lows in the area are around -6C/21F, I don't think the little guy would make it without shelter overnight. Hopefully he's at someone's house and they just haven't realized he's considered missing yet. There's still a 'it takes a village to raise a child' mindset in a lot of Indigenous communities. Best case scenario, there's a kokum feeding an extra kid unaware everyone's looking for him!

Edit note: This is a week off from school here (the week after Easter is always holidays) so kids will be running around everywhere without a school schedule.
Hmm, idk about that, im native and this type of mindset isn't common but who knows. Hopefully this is the case, he's just a little baby

Grandmother of missing 5-year-old Frank Young addresses public as search reaches Day 28

The Head Start program was mentioned in this story. Here's an overview of the program.

Here's an excerpt: (bolding by me) Head Start programs are available at no cost to children ages birth to 5 from low-income families. Programs may provide transportation to the centers so enrolled children can participate regularly. Families and children experiencing homelessness, and children in the foster care system are also eligible. Additionally, Head Start services are available to children with disabilities and other special needs.

I suppose it's possible that Frank was enrolled because any of the criteria could apply to him. I wonder if Frank was a special needs child?
