    " On Monday at around noon, the Guelph Police began an investigation after human remains were discovered behind businesses on the east side of Arrow Road. On Tuesday evening, officers announced these remains were of an unidentified male.

    "It is anticipated that upon completion of the forensic examination, police will have further information in regard to this ongoing investigation," said a recent update from Guelph Police."

    "Update:

    The Guelph Police are now confirming the identity of the found remains are that of Wayne Rutledge. Mr. Rutledge, was reported missing to the Guelph Police on December 16, 2012. At the time that Mr. Rutledge was reported missing he was 37 years of age.

    A large scale search was conducted in 2012 and 2013 for Mr. Rutledge. The search was coordinated by the police utilizing a trained search team and investigative teams that included canine units from the Guelph Police and the Ontario Provincial Police. This case remained open and active and as new information was presented to the police, that information was investigated in anticipation of locating Mr. Rutledge.

    Mr. Rutledge’s identity was confirmed by the forensic experts on October 15, 2014 through his dental records which police had obtained as part of the investigative process. Upon examining Mr. Rutledge’s remains it has been determined at this time that foul play is not suspected. The investigation will remain open pending the final forensic examination report.

    The Guelph Police extend their sympathies to the Rutledge family."
