An American man who travelled to Canada to go to a music festival disappeared at some point during his visit, and his whereabouts remain unknown two weeks later.

Mounties said the 30-year-old came to Vancouver from California on Wednesday, July 20.

Harsha Paladugu stayed with a friend when he got in, then left Thursday morning to go to a music festival outside of Salmo, B.C.

He'd planned to make the approximately eight-hour drive to the Shambhala Music Festival through a ride share. Police did not say how he'd found that ride, or whether investigators have spoken to those people.

He may have been seen a week after he flew into Vancouver, sitting next to a suitcase on the side of the road near the intersection of highways 3 and 6 about 3.5 kilometres south of the festival grounds. That would have been two days after the festival ended. Mounties said the suitcase was turned over to police, and was determined to belong to Paladugu. It's unclear where Paladugu went without his suitcase, if it was indeed him seen with it that day.

About 28 members from South Columbia, Rossland Sar and Castlegar Sar searched for almost 10 hours today totalling 280 man hours. Unfortunately we we unable to locate Harsha but we did find a significant amount of information and clues that helped up determine his timeline, locations he appeared on video or sightings. This gave us a good lead on his direction of travel.
RCMP and SCSAR will be flying overhead in an RCMP helicopter tomorrow morning at 830am to search some difficult areas and a full flight of the Salmo River. Search is likely to resume on Saturday with a significant Sar presence in the area.

This is good news or at least better than not finding anything, imo. I hope the clues help them located Harsha.

''What's been made public so far in terms of a timeline is that Paladugu flew to Vancouver from California on Wednesday, July 20. He stayed with a friend, and left the next morning, July 21, to go to a music festival in Salmo.

He'd planned to make the eight-hour drive to the Shambhala Music Festival through a ride share. The festival ran July 21 to 25.

According to police, after the festival Paladugu was going to visit a friend in Toronto, but it seems he's still in B.C.''

RCMP presser confirms Harsha did attend Shambhala Music Festival, contrary to what some news outlets are reporting.
If true, concerning. It's an EDM festival in a remote area. People arriving by themselves and using any kind of substance, including alcohol, could be in danger if they become disoriented/lost.

Several belongings have been found, but there's still no sign of an American man who crossed the border to attend a music festival, officials said, announcing the suspension of search efforts.

South Columbia Search and Rescue spent four days searching for Harsha Paladugu in the Salmo area of British Columbia, but still haven't been able to find the missing 30-year-old.

In a social media post, SCSAR said its crew and others completed more than 8,000 hours of searching. More than 100 people joined the search over the weekend, undeterred by challenging terrain and high temperatures.

During the massive search effort, crews uncovered some of Paladugu's personal belongings, including clothing, shoes, his credit card and receipts. They said these discoveries helped create a bit of a timeline of his whereabouts and the direction of his travel.

I can't find any updated information about this man. Bumping in the hopes that someone with better resources takes interest and can figure out whether the investigation has just been parked somewhere to collect dust, or if there is current progress.

I went down a wonderful rabbit hole about this festival and that's not really the vibe. EDM yes but not so much the drugs and alcohol that tend to go along with that. I'd love to hear from anyone who has been to this festival. It could certainly be life-changing for some people - so much time and opportunity for so many things - good or bad or different.

nothing new. Is anyone looking for him anywhere still? Perhaps he was found? All I see if that the search was suspended.
