Found Deceased Canada - Kera Freeland, 20, pregnant, Toronto, March 2011 *Arrest*

What a sad life story she had. I hope that the cold weather has preserved enough evidence that it can eventually be matched to someone. If she had a "bad date", which appears to be the case, then I suspect this "bad date" is going to do it again.

Another (high-risk lifestyle) young woman murdered - she had been interviewed previous week at her friend's funeral who was stabbed on St. Patricks day, at a house party in Orleans (Ottawa).

It is alleged the man who killed her was the cleaner at a run-down motel, in the Greely area (Bank St., south of Ottawa). The story is still developing, so details might change as more info comes out. Will post a few links, but there are a lot more online.

Now the 34-year old who has a long criminal record dating back over the past 15 years, will meet with a court psychiatrist, who will determine if there is enough evidence to request a full mental assessment that could help determine if he can be held criminally responsible :banghead:

The 14 y-o son of the owner of the motel where JR was found, had been in the news last year for broadcasting a radio station from that location without a licence or something like that (unrelated to this story, just as a reference).

Over in Sonia's thread, dotr enquired about what treatment Kera might have been receiving for her medical conditions:

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Found Deceased Canada - Sonia Varaschin, 42, Orangeville, 29 Aug 2010 - #2

Interesting question because with Kera only having been in Ontario for a couple of months, combined with the info that she was going to return to AB for treatment, I wonder if her medical coverage with AB was still in effect.

Kera required cancer treatment. Over in Sonia's thread, rudie had posted that the company Sonia worked for:

represents other companies involving patients receiving oncology drugs and treatments for MS. Nurses are employed there as patient case managers as well as front line nurses who deliver care to patients.

Goog point sillybilly, and that is why I had questioned earlier if Kera had mentioned to her best friend that she was planning on going to BC. That is what Kera allegedly told her employers. At the time, I thought it was odd that she was going to BC and not Alberta.

Not sure if that is a mistake in the reporting, or perhaps what Kera mentioned to the employer was that she was going back home for cancer treatment, and the employer just assumed she meant BC :waitasec: Sorry, not sure if I am making any sense.

IIRC, it was said in one of the articles that Kera had been working for that same agency in Vancouver, so perhaps that's why the employer thought of BC? :dunno:

With regards to your question re medical coverage, I would assume the 'agency' would make sure all their employees have some kind of medical coverage. I don't know about that kind of business, but wouldn't they ask for a medical 'clearance' prior to hiring or have routine check-ups?

Hazel, I would expect that the escorts must have some kind of health screening upon being hired, but if they did, they would have known that KF age only 20 - was (allegedly pregnant) and positive for cervical cancer...

Sept 23, 2008--
Kera Jane Freeland, 18, is charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of recognizance and a 17-year-old male -- who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act -- is charged with theft under $5,000.

Sounds like a wild child. But none the less I hope the LE get the perps. LE might want to see if she had a pimp, likely they were not happy if she wanted to leave. A motive.

They don't.

Ironic to think that men presumably with the kind of big dough to pay for escorts, probably also pay top dollar taking care of their own health and that of their families.Just imagine little "Johnny" showing up at an exclusive private school with a nasty condition, passed along from Mom via Dad via sex worker...

I am wondering how many other "high-risk lifestyle" cases there are in Ontario right now?

This girl is dead:

This girl is missing:
The former Halifax native was in a group home briefly at age 14, eventually dropping out of high school and moving to the Hamilton area with a former boyfriend.

She started working in strip clubs, but Carter said three years ago Shana Carter had a son and was turning her life around, "getting away from that lifestyle and getting settled, you know, just being a mom," said Carter.

"She had talked about going back to school and finishing her high school, getting a GED and all that. She had been making plans for a better future."

Sgt. Dan Nadeau with Niagara Regional Police said they're investigating Shana's disappearance from Grimsby as a missing persons case.

Just posted this article in Shana's thread. Could someone please let me know if you think it could be her? Location is off though. Shana is originally from Halifax (Nova Scotia), moved to Hamilton, went missing from Grimsby, ON

Was it ever released if Kera had her shoes on when found?

Just reading about the Long Island S.K. They found a 5th body this week.

The first 4 were all escorts, and used Craig's List extensively.

Link please, or do you have personal infomation to that effect????

Actually, first hand experience; I don't 'need' a link. Believe it or not. There is NOTHING safe or glamorous about the escort industry. I could share a ton of stories. There is no screening, no background checks. Most "agencies" require photo ID but that's all. And a "GFE" is an industry term for basically, unprotected sex (usually oral).

Many people aren't even aware they have an STD.

Dead escort's worst fear was to go missing

Kera Freeland's remains were found in a ditch in Caledon, Ont., on March 17.

TORONTO - Kera Freeland's biggest fear was to become a missing person.

Her older brother has been missing in B.C. for the last six years and his absence broke her heart.

"Jaymi learned her roommate was seeing other women and overheard a conversation between a distraught Freeland who informed Jaymi's male roommate that she was pregnant with his child. Jaymi began to feel sympathetic towards Freeland."

At the end of that article, kara's roomie says she went on a privately arranged date. I wonder if she posted an ad on one of the many escort advertising websites. I hope the cops check her e-mail.

Here Is a website for Toronto sex trade workers. A list of bad and undesirable clients are listed. For anyone who wants to have a look. It's quite scary to see the men out there who prey on sex workers. Http://spoc.ca

The search for a missing friend
Last Updated: April 4, 2011 9:30pm
“I’ll never forget lying in bed that night, my phone was on vibrate and it went off. It was her and I didn’t answer that phone, that kills me,” Jaymi said.
She did receive a text from Freeland about 30 minutes after the missed call that read:
“There’s so much drama and bull---- in this world, I can’t wait to get to your house in the morning.”
At her urging, Jaymi’s boyfriend began calling the escort agency to order Freeland. Every single time, they informed her that Freeland was working.

Each time she would cancel the order, as she only wanted to hear that her friend was alive.

The third time she called the person on the other end, the woman said Freeland was off for a few days and offered to send another girl.

At this point, Jaymi began to worry that the male friend Freeland had been staying with had hurt her.
When she happened to meet with him, he was under the assumption she had been staying with Jaymi the entire time.

Lawyer Gregory Leslie, who represents Cachet Ladies, said the mix-up regarding Jaymi’s boyfriend calling the agency to order Kera comes down to a similarity in names.
Kera went by the name Chloe when she worked as an escort at Cachet and there was another escort who went by the name of Cleo.

Chloe/Cleo, hmmm, kinda hard to believe they mixed up the names on the three phone call requests.
Who is that male friend Kera had been staying with? Just a friend or boyfriend?

"I would offer her my bed because she said it's been so long since she's slept in one. She was so used to crashing on couches and futons, and she was really sick from the pregnancy and the cancer," Jaymi says.

She says Freeland would joke that she hadn't been cuddled in forever, and Jaymi would curl up beside her on the bed so that she wouldn't feel so alone."

How terribly, heartbreakingly sad and ironic, that this beautiful girl had no bed, no money and no one to cuddle , yet - had a job that involves going to bed with people who pay lots of money for a "girlfriend experience".

Just reading about the Long Island S.K. They found a 5th body this week.

Did they even indicate whether she was found fully clothed? I would imagine she had certain kinds of "date" clothing so it might be easier to figure out whether she was on "date" if her clothing was found with her.

MOO

In regards to the agency sending another girl in replacement: a common practice. Instead of losing out on the money they hope the client will see the replacement girl and go with her anyway. If he doesn't want to then atleast they get their cancellation fee. It's called a bait and switch and some agencies do it regularly.
