EDMONTON — RCMP are asking for the public's assistance with a specific detail in the mysterious disappearance of two Alberta seniors.

Mounties are looking for anyone who may have done welding modification to a tow bar of an A-Frame towing assembly which was used on Lyle and Marie McCann's 1999 Gulf Stream Voyager RV to tow a 2006 Hyundai Tucson.
"

"EDMONTON - A seemingly inconsequential welding job six years ago could play an important role in the investigation into the disappearance of St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann, who were last seen while driving to British Columbia in 2010 and are presumed to have been slain.

The McCanns were officially declared dead in the summer of 2011.

RCMP say talking to the welder or welding shop that put a tow bar on one of the McCann vehicles in 2006 could help investigators working on the case."

Lost pieces, no peace
The phone used to ring almost non-stop. Thirty or more calls a day at first, people with tips and information, all wanting to help.
Some calls were from inmates, others from members of the public, or from psychics claiming to have had visions of what happened. Two people flew from the United States and spent days walking in the dense northern forest, convinced they knew where to find the bodies of Lyle and Marie McCann.
The McCanns’ son, Bret, drove recently to meet one of those callers, hoping the man might have that one, crucial piece of information that could change everything.
He didn’t. They never do.

Two years after couple disappeared, suspect remains uncharged
There's a time Travis Vader remembers, back in Summerland, B.C., when he was happy, living with his wife and seven children in a nice, big house, working hard, making money, providing for his family.

It was the time before Vader's name and mug shot became familiar around Alberta. The time before the former oilfield worker was widely thought to be the person who killed St. Albert, Alta., seniors Lyle and Marie McCann.

"I had a life," Vader told the Edmonton Journal recently. "I had some good things going for me. I'm a normal person. I'm a person like anyone else out there, who works hard and cares for the people around them."

New McCann-related search conducted ahead of 2 year anniversary of couple's disappearance
It's been almost two years since Lyle and Marie McCann disappeared, but RCMP are not giving up on finding them.
Global Edmonton has learned crews have been scouring Chip Lake west of Edmonton, and RCMP tell us the search is tied to the missing couple.
The McCanns were last seen leaving St. Albert on the morning of July 3, 2010. They were on their way to meet their daughter in Abbotsford, B.C., but never reached her. Instead, their burnt-out motor home was found two days later in a remote area near the Minnow Lake campground about 150 kilometres west of Eddmonton.
This past week, an RCMP search focused on another campground west of Edmonton. The site is about an hour's drive from where the couple's motorhome was recovered.
