Investigators identify body found along Highway 1 near Yale as 19-year-old woman

Homicide investigators say foul play is suspected in the death of a 19-year-old woman whose body was found along Highway 1 north of Hope, B.C. earlier this week.

Boston Bar RCMP said a passing motorist reported seeing a human body near Highway 1 between Hope and Yale on May 26 at approximately 1:50 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Melissa Elizabeth Steele, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). She was known to frequent the downtown area of Vancouver and led a transient lifestyle.

It's about an hour drive. I'm familiar with the area. Shaelene is missing from Chilliwack, not known to be transient, and her vehicle was found in the Ballam Road area of Chilliwack. Ballam Rd would almost seem like a locale that would be more familiar to a local perp.

Neither Melissa or Alicia were reported to have a vehicle. IMO, the dumping of their bodies up the old Trans Canada Hwy (well travelled but not a freeway) up through the Fraser Canyon, smacks more of someone travelling with a destination more outside of the Lower Mainland.

    IMO

    Sorry for quoting myself ..

The reason I say that is, a perp who lived in the Lower Mainland would have many more places they could find to dump a body rather than travelling all that distance through Hope, and running the risk of being stopped by LE enroute with a body in the car. Or, if the victims were alive while passing through Hope, and killed closer to where their bodies were found, IMO, the perp would have a need to be going in that direction in the first place.

    Hope that make sense.
