Published On Wed Mar 23 2011VICTORIA—It was 20 years ago on Thursday that four-year-old Michael Dunahee disappeared from a Victoria playground just steps away from his parents, sparking a massive search that has never ended.

Victoria Police have called a press conference for today to mark the tragic anniversary, which continues to haunt the force and the city as one of its darkest unsolved crimes.

Recently, there was talk of a possible link between the disappearance and a possible child killer in Milwaukee, Wisc.

In January 2009, a Milwaukee TV station reported that U.S. police found a missing person poster of Michael inside the home of 62-year-old Vernon Seitz, who confessed just before dying to killing two children in 1958.

Victoria police dismissed any connection.

In 2006, officials offered a $100,000 reward for information on the case, but no solid information came forward.

A man in Port McNeill was rumoured to be Michael until DNA tests proved otherwise.

Michael’s parents have never given up hope that their son might one day turn up alive.

Without a trace
Global News: Wednesday, March 23, 2011

After 20 years, police officers and his family are still haunted by the disappearance of Michael Dunahee.

The four-year old vanished on March 24, 1991, from a Victoria playground while his mother was playing a flag football game and his father was watching from the sidelines.

The search for the boy remains one of the largest police investigations in Canadian history, involving thousands of officers over the years.

A new website has been launched to seek new information in one of B.C.'s most infamous missing child cases, more than two decades after the boy disappeared.

Michael Dunahee was just four years old when he vanished without a trace from a Victoria playground Blanshard Elementary School on March 4, 1991.

More than 20 years later, Michael's mother, Crystal Dunahee, says the family has no plans to give up the search and the hope of bringing him home.

"The Internet is a whole new tool that wasn't available when Michael went missing 20 years ago. With the launch of this new website we are showing the world that we are not giving up on Michael, and we will continue to do what we have to do to bring Michael home," said Crystal.

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection says says the new website, www.michaeldunahee.ca contains new photos and video of Michael, and a link to submit tips.

This child was returned, so anything is possible. Please if anyone knows anything at all about Michael's case, please give the boy's family some measure of peace.

" An infant who vanished in 2004 has been found alive at the home of his former babysitter in Texas.

Auboni Champion-Morin, of Houston, will soon be reunited with her little boy, Miguel, whom she last saw when he was eight months old, reports TV station KPRC

Michael went missing 21 years ago today - I will never forget that day. My daughter was born the day after on March 25 1991 - and so she will be 21 tomorrow. Michael is or would have been 25 years old.

I will also never forget that day or about Michael. I grew up by the park he went missing from and think about him often... I always wonder if someone took him off the island, I think that would be the only scenario where he could still be alive or if he is still here somewhere, not found :tears:.

Not sure if it's been posted in this thread but his sister keeps a facebook page if anyone would like to let her know there are still people thinking of Michael: http://www.facebook.com/pages/We-wi...orget-Michael-Dunahee/172516999468989?sk=wall

VICTORIA — It’s been nearly 22 years since four-year-old Michael Dunahee vanished from a school yard here, and his mother says she still struggles to deal with the anniversaries.

Her comments come as a new book, written by Valerie Green, is launched Friday night at a fundraiser for Child Find B.C.

The sketch is a reminder that the search is now focused on a young man in his mid-20s, and Dunahee hopes someone will recognize him — or he might recognize himself.

“It’s a cold case, but it’s still active. That seems incredible after almost 22 years,” said the Saanich-based writer. “I was surprised that even the police are hopeful, without evidence to the contrary. There’s never been a body found. There’s no actual crime scene.”

“You never know,” Dunahee said. “(Michael) just might pick up the book himself and realize this is the story of his life that’s missing.”

Vanished will be available from local bookstores this month for $18.95, with half of the proceeds to support Child Find B.C.

“Hopefully it’s a lot safer world, but at the same time, I think it’s taken away a lot of the freedom for children to be able to go out and play, which is a shame,” Green said

I came across Michael's age progression picture today while looking at another case. It took me by surprise because he looks exactly like someone I know. While I'm certain it's not him based in his age and his older sister, the resemblance is uncanny.

But I still wanted to comment and hope that one day Michaels parents find the answers they are looking for, it can't be easy wondering for all these years.

I lived in Victoria when Micheal went missing. Although I don't know Micheal or his family, this story really hits home. I now live across Canada but will never quit watching for Micheal. They did renact that day and there was one parking spot empty that people remembered a brown van being parked in. I wish more sleuthing could be done on this story, but I guess there isn't much to go on.
