Monica Chisar is missing and police think it could be 'foul play' | CBC News

Hamilton police announced Friday morning that the service's major crime unit has taken over the investigation into the disappearance of missing person Monica Chisar.

Chisar was last seen by a friend in the area of Barton Street East and Parkdale Avenue North. Investigators say she has been missing since July 11, but was only reported missing by her family on Sept. 28.

"[The major crime unit] has conducted an overall analysis of the disappearance of Monica Chisar leading investigators to believe that there is a chance foul play exists," a police news release reads. "However, it remains a possibility that Monica is alive and has simply chosen to disappear for reasons only known to her.

"...this matter warrants the further resources that the [major crime unit] can provide for this investigation."

Police are asking the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in the investigation.

“Monica did not have much of a history in Hamilton but she had a wide circle of associates across the GTA. It is also believed that she had a connection to Kitchener, which is also of interest to us.”

The Major Crime Unit can be reached at (905) 546-3829."

Hamilton Major Crime Unit takes over missing woman case - CHCH

A friend dropped her off at the Beer Store at Barton and Parkdale, with the expectation she was going to be spending the night at one of the apartments on Melvin avenue.

On Melvin there are several high-rise apartment buildings so Hamilton Police were unable to determine which one was her destination.

[MC] changes her appearance often. She had only been in Hamilton a few months and may have had a job lined up. She is known to use illicit drugs.

“She wanted to turn over a new leaf. She has a son in Mexico and wanted to be more part of his life. They haven’t heard from her either.” says [her sister].

'Foul play' suspected in disappearance of 'somewhat bohemian' Monica Chisar: police | CBC News

Chisar had worked as an escort and an exotic dancer, [Det. Sgt. D.O.] said, but police don't believe she was doing that work around the time of her disappearance. Her employment was "sporadic," he said. She also had a drug problem. [Det. Sgt. D.O.] said she owed people some money, but "that's all I'm going to say about that."

Disclaimer: I'm not posting this in a judgmental or gossipy way, but because I think it could be a factor in her disappearance.

Jesus, two and a half month between when she was last seen and when she was reported missing, four and a half months between when her body was found and when it was identified. Things move slow in Canada.

It sure does seem that no one was in a hurry here. I wonder why it took so long to identify her. RIP Monica.

I assume she was left out in the elements for quite some time. She went missing in July 2018 and a body discovered in Dec 2019. It is a wooded area with wildlife, such as coyotes.

Wondering if Monica's recent tip to Europe played any role in her murder? imo, speculation.

HUNTER: Hamilton woman joins tragic Mount Forest body disposal roster
''The tiny community of about 5,000 people can be reached within two hours from Toronto, Hamilton, London and Kitchener.

It is painfully quiet except for the Tim Hortons, which always does a bustling business.

Yet for years, killers from outside the area have been dumping dead bodies in the vicinity''

“Monica was known to be a traveller and had just returned home from Europe prior to her disappearance,” Det.-Sgt. Jim Callender told reporters.''

''Monica Chisar had a wanderlust. At the time of her murder, there were more trips and adventures to anticipate.

Instead, the end of the line came outside Mount Forest.

The OPP have set up a dedicated tip line that goes directly to the detectives in the case at 1-855-677-4636. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.''
