Any updates? More victims identified in past years that point to Riddle?

SOUTH PARIS. Maine - Police are trying to unravel the bizarre story of an itinerant dishwasher who has said he was involved in 30 killings across the continent over the last two decades. Officials yesterday were not sure of the name or age of the man who calls himself Lovie L. Riddle and "The Interstate Man" and contends he was responsible for homicides from Texas to Toronto. His statements, made to State Police beginning Aug. 24, were contained in affidavits police filed in advance of a fifth bail hearing yesterday afternoon. The man is being held on a felony sex charge stemming from an Aug. 13 incident involving a woman in Fryeburg. "I have no way of telling whether he did any of the things he said he did," Janet Mills, district attorney for Oxford, Franklin and Androscoggin counties, said yesterday. "Everything has to be taken seriously," she added, until Riddle's statements can be confirmed or dismissed. "At the very least, anybody who fakes such things or talks about such things has a problem that ought to be addressed," Mills said, because anyone who talks about such crimes poses "a propensity for danger." Mills said she would not characterize Riddle's comments as a confession because he had not given a detailed description of each murder. Instead, she said, he gave a "rambling and fairly disconnected statement" to State Police Detective Peter Herring after he was returned to the Oxford County Jail following an earlier bail hearing. Patricia Mador, assistant Oxford County district attorney, said yesterday that Riddle told State Police he was either present at, participated in or had knowledge of many murders. CLAIMS, Page 34
