According to LE Twitter (linked above) Martin Carpentier’s car has been found in St-Apollinaire, which is about 40 -50 minutes drive SW from Levis.

There’s also chatter that it may have been in an accident.

Yes I heard that the car was found badly damaged with no occupants. If that’s the case then they could be injured in the immediate area. Are they focusing on that area?

I’m hoping that he met someone to pick them up then crashed the car on purpose without the kids in it. It’s good that the car was found without them in there. Maybe that means that no one was seriously injured in the accident. MOO

''WITNESS SAW CRASH, SEARCHED FOR MISSING FAMILY

A woman driving in the area, Lyne Provencher, said she witnessed the crash.

She said she saw a car headed toward Quebec City fly off the road, hit a sign and some trees, and then flip over.

"I was driving towards Montreal when I saw a cloud of dust and, boom, the car ended up in front of me suddenly," Provencher said, adding that she had to think fast to avoid a collision.

"I stopped on the side of the road and I ran to see if there were people inside – nobody," she said, adding that three people called authorities at the same time.

"We were screaming and panicking," she said.''

"There's nobody. The tires are blown out, the windows are blown out. There's no one in the car or in the field," she is heard saying in the video. "It's crazy. I don't understand."

"Right now, we are looking for these people who are missing .... The car is very damaged and that's why we are looking for them, to see what condition they are in."
She said signs point to the three leaving the scene of the crash on foot.''

So at 8:30pm all three were spotted having ice cream in their neighborhood and then an hour later their car was coming BACK to the neighborhood via the highway when it crashed.
The area of the crash is about a 30 minute drive from their neighborhood.
Interesting
What was the drive away for ? To do something nefarious to the girls?
At least the police know they are working with a tight timeline along a busy highway ( it’s the Trans Canada) within a very defined area.

The girls' father, Martin Carpentier, 44, is described as wearing a grey T-shirt and jeans and may be wearing glasses. He is considered the suspect according to the Amber Alert issued Thursday. (Submitted by Amber Alerte Québec)
''By the time an Amber Alert was issued Thursday afternoon, provincial police had already established a command post about 40 kilometres west of Quebec City and had deployed helicopters, ATVs and canine teams to scour the surrounding area.

The father and two girls are from Lévis, Que., across the St. Lawrence River from the province's capital. Authorities are asking residents in surrounding regions to search their barns, sheds and trailers for signs of the missing family.''

Part of the article you quoted says “She said signs point to the three leaving the scene of the crash on foot.''

I’m not clear on who said that. Was “She”the witness or was it someone from law-enforcement?
I ask because a witness might assume that since there were supposed to be three people in the car and she didn’t find people in the car, the three people must have left on foot.
On the other hand, a law enforcement spokes person would only say that if there were signs of three people leaving on foot such as a video or eyewitness who saw all three walking or actual footprints or blood trails or something.

"We aren't talking about a kidnapping at the moment," said police spokesperson Anik Lamirande. "Right now, we are looking for these people who are missing .... The car is very damaged and that's why we are looking for them, to see what condition they are in."

She said signs point to the three leaving the scene of the crash on foot.

I think it would be the police spokeswoman Anik Lamirande who said it.
Very good point that the meaning changes depending on who the quote is from.
AND this motorist witness sure stuck around and got a lot of information- the stepfather calling the cell phone back, the police calling the mother to enquire about the girls etc... if I was the cops I would have made her step back and let us do our job. She even took a now deleted video of the scene. I mean it’s good for us that the additional information is out there but the SQ sure let her get close

I think he hurt the girls and then tried to stage an accident.

So the car flipped over. The witness stopped and ran towards the car, and nobody was in the car. How did they get out of the car so quickly? 20-3o seconds?

And even if they got out so quickly, the witness must have heard screams or someone crying. Even at a distance. If that is not the case, the witness didn't got out immediately. Otherwise IMO you can't miss them.

I am also worried how the accident ocurred. What was going on inside of that car? A possible second adult present?

My first thought, was were the girls definitely in the car when the crash happened?
How in the world would they all have got out and vanished so quickly?!
