They are not releasing his name. But this one has been solved!

Yes! I just saw that on the news, great to hear. So glad for the family to find this out, although a very sad outcome for them. I recall that at one point, that LE realized the fellow traveller who described the John Doe, was in fact talking about someone else. So all that information does not apply here anymore. Finally his loved ones have answers. Condolences to them all.

Inscribed on the unassuming headstone is a line from Matthew 11:28, along with a brief description of the mysterious circumstances of his death.

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened.” it reads.

26-year mystery solved: Regina's John Doe identified using DNA research
''Michael Kirov was born Michael Lewis, his family explained in a statement.

Referred to as their “dear cousin”, his family shared memories of holidays spent together at nearby beaches and parks.

DNA evidence lead investigators to Michael’s first cousins, who were in attendance at a press conference in Regina on Thursday morning.

“He was a sweet, shy, quiet boy with big blue eyes,” Michael’s family wrote in a statement.

Michael was the only son to his mother, Joan, and his grandparent's only grandson. He was raised by his mother and grandparents, and cousins described a close relationship between Michael and Joan.

Tragedy hit Michael when Joan died suddenly in 1991. Following his mother’s death, Michael left Winnipeg “in search of himself”.

In Regina’s Riverside Cemetery, a generous community member created a headstone to remember Michael. His cousins say his name will be added to the stone.''

How amazing that after 26 years through the modern expertise of Othram Labs.; and the foresight of the coroner's office in preserving samples, that this young man Michael Kirov (Lewis) was finally id'ed for the sake of his family; and all who followed his case. The Saskatchewan longtime coroner must be relieved, as he had wanted the identity back for this last case before he retired! Condolences to Michael's cousins and all who cared about him. It is sad to think about this young man, gone too soon.

Definitely a really enjoyable agency to work with and it was really nice that they were able to locate and involve family in the press conference.
