Calnen, 50, is charged with second-degree murder and interfering with human remains in the case.

“Police suspected that foul play or something serious had happened to Miss Jordan because she went from being very active on social media, regular interaction with friends, to zero,” says Halifax RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae.
Calnen works as a plumber and has lived in the same neighbourhood in Hammonds Plains for many years. People who know him say he started dating Jordan after his first marriage ended.
Her remains have yet to be found.

I don't understand the charge of interfering with human remains if they have not yet found her remains... can anyone clarify what this might mean?

Here’s what the Criminal Code of Canada says:
http://yourlaws.ca/criminal-code-canada/182-dead-body

"182. Dead body. Every one who:
(a) neglects, without lawful excuse, to perform any duty that is imposed on him by law or that he undertakes with reference to the burial of a dead human body or human remains, or
(b) improperly or indecently interferes with or offers any indignity to a dead human body or human remains, whether buried or not, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years."

JMO — LE is very certain he killed her and because he didn’t call LE regarding her death directly after the fact, he is thereby in violation of the Code.

I hope he comes forth with the truth for the sake of her family.

Sigh. Endings like this one are becoming all too common. My thoughts are with Reita's loved ones.

Calnen gets bail on murder charge

A Hammonds Plains man accused of killing his girlfriend was granted bail Monday by a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge.

[snip]

The bail order was secured by real estate belonging to his three siblings: Cynthia Singer, Barry Calnen and Raymond Calnen.

Calnen is permitted to live at two different homes in Hammonds Plains, one on Daisywood Drive and the other on Yankeetown Road. He can only leave the properties if he’s accompanied by one of his sureties.

[snip]

A preliminary inquiry into the charges will be held next April in Halifax provincial court. That hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to advance to trial in Supreme Court.

The suspect in this case, Paul Calnen, is the father of a girl who is now missing.

She was supposed to testify in a SEPARATE case against HER BF (and some others) and went missing last weekend. They're saying they don't suspect foul play but are concerned about her safety.

I'm a little shocked given she was about to be part of TWO pretty significant cases - the other being her father's.

She's not a preliminary witness in his, but will come into play at some point.

Anyway, thread on his missing daughter - CANADA Bethany Calnen 20 April 5,2014 Halifax, Nova Scotia - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community
