Investigators have not yet determined the child's exact age or sex

''Ruben Shiffman has been living in the neighbourhood for about 20 years and said he's never seen something like this happen.

Shiffman said there was a large police presence Monday, and that the property where the dumpster was located had been under renovations for several years.

"Nobody knew what was going on. Lots of neighbours were asking questions," he said.

Officers are now canvassing the area, calling on anyone with information, surveillance video or dashcam footage to contact them.

"If you witnessed anything, even if it seems very small to you it could mean a lot to us, so please contact investigators," Brabant said''

That’s a pretty affluent area for something like this to happen.

I’m going to assume that a lot of homes on the street will have security cameras. Hopefully one of them picked up something.

I haven’t heard about any missing children in Toronto.

I can’t find anything on this and I live just outside of Toronto.

WTH ????
Looked around for more info. but after they mentioned ''small child'' things went quiet, maybe waiting for the autopsy results. imo.
Odd coincidence, another body was found not that far away this morning, probably unrelated- just noting. fwiw

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on an investigation where human remains were found.

On Monday, May 2, 2022, at 4:46 p.m., police responded to a call in the Castle Frank Road and Dale Avenue area.

See previous release

A post mortem examination was completed on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. As a result of the post mortem, investigators can confirm the following:

- the remains are that of a young girl, possibly between the age of 4 to 7 years

- the girl is described as black, of African or mixed African descent

- she is 3'6" tall, with a thin build, and has black curly hair that was sectioned in four short ponytails, two of which were braided and secured with black and blue elastic bands.

- she has all her teeth

- the cause of death has not yet been determined

Investigators believe the remains were left in the area between Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 12 p.m., and Monday May 2, 2022, at 4:45 p.m. However, she may have been deceased as early as the summer or fall of 2021, or earlier.

Images are being released of two items of clothing associated to where the child was found in hopes that someone will recognize them and help identify who this little girl is.

Any member of the public who has any information, or video surveillance of the area, including dash-camera video, or anyone who recognizes the blankets or victims description, is urged to immediately contact police.

Information can be passed on to police by calling 416-808-5300, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.

''May 5, 2022 11:19AM EDT
Human remains found in a construction dumpster outside a vacant Rosedale home earlier this week have been confirmed as belonging to a little girl as young as four years old, police say.

The remains were located in a dumpster outside a home on Dale Avenue near Castle Frank Road late Monday afternoon.

Police say that an autopsy has now confirmed that the remains belong to a girl who is likely between the ages of four and seven.

Investigators believe that the remains were left in the dumpster sometime between 12 p.m. on April 28 and 4:45 p.m. on May 2.

Police, however, say that the girl may have been deceased as early as this past summer.

More to come…''

Remains found in Toronto dumpster belong to little girl as young as 4, police say | CP24.com
''Investigators believe that the remains were left in the dumpster sometime between 12 p.m. on April 28 and 4:45 p.m. on May 2.

Police, however, say that the girl may have been deceased as early as this past summer, or perhaps even earlier.

“We have the best investigators in the Toronto Police Service working this case with everything they've got and so we will identify this little girl and we will be doing all the work that we can for her,” Insp. Hank Idsinga told reporters during a news conference on Thursday morning.

Police haven’t formally classified the girl’s death as a homicide at this point but Idsinga said that detectives with the homicide unit are actively involved in the investigation with the understanding that “kids don’t just die.”

He said that as part of the investigation officers are looking back on old missing persons reports and have identified “a couple which come close” but none that investigators have narrowed in on at this point.''

''The girl is described as Black, of African or mixed African descent. She was about three-foot-six, with a thin build and black curly hair that was in four short ponytails, two of which were braided and secured with black and blue elastic bands.

Her remains were wrapped in a crochet blanket inside a plastic bag. That bag was then wrapped in a colour blanket. Police have released an image of that blanket in the hopes of triggering someone’s memory.

Police say that the cause of death has not been determined. ''

Body found in Rosedale dumpster belonged to young girl who may have died last year, police say | The Star

''Neither the girl’s identity nor her cause of death has yet been confirmed. Police expect further forensic pathology results in the coming weeks.

“We are investigating this death at its highest level, just like a homicide investigation,” said Insp. Hank Idsinga, of Toronto police’s homicide and missing persons’ unit.''

“Our first priority now is to establish the identity of this little girl,” he said, adding that police expect to soon release a composite sketch.

Idsinga added that police have found some outstanding missing persons’ cases that come close to the description of the girl, but none are a definitive match.''

“I don’t recall myself personally any cases where the pathologist has had to rely on the entomology process to gauge the time of death of a victim,” Idsinga said, noting further testing may tighten down that window. Forensic entomology analyzes the insects associated with the decay of a deceased person to determine their time of death.

“It’s a very unusual circumstance that we’re dealing with.”

Police asked anyone with video surveillance or information to contact police at 416-808-5300, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.''

''She was short, just three-foot-six. She had her hair in braids. She was wrapped in a baby blanket with a distinctive pattern. She likely died last summer or fall.''

“Kids don’t just die.”

The mystery, which has shaken seasoned investigators and residents of one of Toronto’s wealthiest areas, began on Monday evening when police received a 911 call from a man reporting human remains found in a dumpster outside an unoccupied beige brick bungalow on Dale Avenue, near Castle Frank subway station. The remains had been placed in a blanket, then wrapped in a plastic bag and a second piece of colourful patterned fabric.''

''A post-mortem investigation soon confirmed what police dreaded: the body was that of a girl between the ages of four and seven, and who was Black, African or mixed African.''

''Idsinga said there are several possible reasons someone may have chosen that street to dispose of the body, noting it’s close to the Don Valley Parkway by car and is within walking distance of St. James Town, a dense highrise neighbourhood.''

''Forensic entomologists look at the conditions the body was found in — including season, weather and temperature — and the types of bugs that colonize a body after death. An insect’s “life-cycle from egg to adult is predictable,” she said, so the insects can give investigators some idea of how long a person may have been dead.

Anderson couldn’t comment on this specific case, but said that if a body showed evidence of long-term insect colonization, it could indicate the person had been dead since the previous warm season, since insects aren’t active over winter.''

''Police asked anyone with video surveillance or information to contact police at 416-808-5300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or www.222tips.com.''

Does this sound like she may have been in a freezer (?) since 2021 and then recently put into the dumpster?

They think she was exposed to warm-weather insects in 2021, or 2020 based on the lifecycle of the type of bugs found, then recently moved to the dumpster.

I think she was in a garage or somewhere and for some reason they had to dispose of her remains. (Maybe they moved.)

ETA: she was wrapped first in a child’s blanket, then put into a plastic bag, *then* wrapped in that colourful fabric. I think the colourful fabric is a very meaningful clue.
