Police investigating ‘suspicious’ death after body found in Rosedale | CP24.com

''Toronto police are investigating after a body was found in the Rosedale area on Monday afternoon.

Police said they were notified a body had been located in the area of Castle Frank Road and Dale Avenue at around 4:45 p.m.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene and police said the circumstances appear to be suspicious.

Officers have set up a perimeter around the scene in order to conduct an investigation and the forensics team is on site.

There's no word so far about the person’s age or gender or how they may have died.''

“Right now I can't confirm the gender, the age of this body that was located. We will hopefully get more information pending the outcome of the autopsy,” Const. Laura Brabant told CP24 Tuesday morning.

''Ruben Shiffman has been living in the neighbourhood for about 20 years and said he's never seen something like this happen.

Shiffman said there was a large police presence Monday, and that the property where the dumpster was located had been under renovations for several years.

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on an investigation where human remains were found.

On Monday, May 2, 2022, at 4:46 p.m., police responded to a call in the Castle Frank Road and Dale Avenue area.

A post mortem examination was completed on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. As a result of the post mortem, investigators can confirm the following:

- the remains are that of a young girl, possibly between the age of 4 to 7 years

- the girl is described as black, of African or mixed African descent

- she is 3'6" tall, with a thin build, and has black curly hair that was sectioned in four short ponytails, two of which were braided and secured with black and blue elastic bands.

- she has all her teeth

- the cause of death has not yet been determined

Investigators believe the remains were left in the area between Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 12 p.m., and Monday May 2, 2022, at 4:45 p.m. However, she may have been deceased as early as the summer or fall of 2021, or earlier.

Images are being released of two items of clothing associated to where the child was found in hopes that someone will recognize them and help identify who this little girl is.

Any member of the public who has any information, or video surveillance of the area, including dash-camera video, or anyone who recognizes the blankets or victims description, is urged to immediately contact police.

The remains were located in a dumpster outside a home on Dale Avenue near Castle Frank Road late Monday afternoon.

Police say that an autopsy has now confirmed that the remains belong to a girl who is likely between the ages of four and seven.

Investigators believe that the remains were left in the dumpster sometime between 12 p.m. on April 28 and 4:45 p.m. on May 2.

Police, however, say that the girl may have been deceased as early as this past summer.

They think she was exposed to warm-weather insects in 2021, or 2020 based on the lifecycle of the type of bugs found, then recently moved to the dumpster.

I think she was in a garage or somewhere and for some reason they had to dispose of her remains. (Maybe they moved.)

ETA: she was wrapped first in a child’s blanket, then put into a plastic bag, *then* wrapped in that colourful fabric. I think the colourful fabric is a very meaningful clue.
