Hi Hazel! This is just another point that makes me think that this case has nothing to do with internet dating. JMO

Hi everyone:

I'm also starting to think that internet dating has nothing to do with the murder of SV. I still think there's a cruel madman out there looking for females to harm - a 'stranger murder'.

And I still believe SV's killer is SL's attacker.:twocents:

Still no news about the DNA testing that was being done?

This guy really does appear to be random.

I was just thinking that this morning. And on Twitter, Toronto PS are saying something about 'swabbing taking place' and they gave the date '20th August'. The TPS didn't mention anything about this having to do with the SV case. They didn't even give a case.....

I was speaking to my kitchen cabinet installer today who is from Orangeville, I happened to mention SV, and he said LE was getting ready to take DNA samples. He didn't give a date, but he said it would be soon.

Haven't been involved with this case much other than reading new, but since the guy was from Orangeville, I figured he might have known SV, he agreed it was probably someone she was familiar with/familiar with Orangeville to have left her body where it was found.

OK, thanks. I suppose that means that Orangeville police are just getting started collecting the DNA samples. If I recall correctly, TPS said something about the DNA collecting would go on until 20th August. I guess that makes sense as some people will be away for vacation time and the killer could use that as an excuse for not complying with the police request.

In Sonia’s memory

"In memory:. This cottage, dedicated to Sonia Varaschin, was built at Camp Couchiching using funds donated in her memory. During the Canada Day long weekend, several of Sonia Varaschin’s family and friends, along with a few dedicated volunteers who know each other through the Volunteer Builders Organization, came together to build “Sonia’s Cottage” at Camp Couchiching."

"Monies generously donated in Sonia’s memory to the camp were used to fund this project.
In a place that she loved and excelled in, Sonia’s Cottage will continue to carry on the great health care tradition at Camp Couchiching and her unsurpassed legacy.
Nearly a year after Sonia’s murder, no arrests have been made. Police continue to actively investigate."

Unrelated, but thought it would be a good idea to add this other composite sketch to this thread so we can have them all together, in case we need it for future reference.

Best to leave no stone un-turned, to steal a phrase. It is a fact that predators do use social media sites and to ignore that, not wise. He knows it too, just wants to keep his service attractive for a buy out and profit.

The police should investigate and follow up. And the socail media providers are morally and legally bound to cooperate. Maybe a dead end, but let the police determine that. But good to see they check such possible leads. An example:

Tons of on-line cases making it to the courts. Even divorce courts.

As for the police probe, “a lot of officers are on the case, but they haven’t been telling us” of any progress, he said.

“The investigation is ongoing,” OPP Const. Peter Leon said, adding officers are still gathering DNA samples through voluntary cheek swabs that began in May.

He noted it takes “a significant amount of time” to get the results of such tests.

“I still have great confidence in the investigative team that has been assembled,” Leon said. “They will find the person who is responsible for the murder of Sonia Varaschin.”

Slain nurse's family still waits for answers

BOLTON - Sonia Marie Jeanne Varaschin should be turning 43 on Saturday.

Instead of cake, candles, hugs and presents, her family will quietly remember the outgoing, vivacious nurse murdered almost 11 months ago.

"It's a year old, but it's still very fresh," Attilio Varaschin said from the neat, tidy bungalow surrounded by trees on the edge of Bolton, where he and wife Michele live with thoughts of two daughters, a son and better times.

Although they try, the couple cannot forget that dreadful day in September when police told them a body east of Orangeville was that of their 5-foot-1, 125-pound daughter.

Stephanie Mitchell went missing from her Amaranthhome (near Orangeville)[/B] on July 29.

She is originally from Port Colborne but has been known to frequent Toronto and Hamilton.

NEWSROOM NOTIONS with Richard Vivian|

Solemn anniversary approaching

It’s been nearly a year since the murder of Orangeville resident Sonia Varaschin.

http://www.orangeville.com/opinion/columns/article/1055594--solemn-anniversary-approaching
Police have only released generic, painfully obvious information about the killer following a summit of experts — he’s male, may have increased drug or alcohol abuse since the murder, knows the Orangeville area, etc. — and the DNA swabbing of men who knew Sonia, or happened to be in the area, feels like a desperate move.
Adding to that sense, The Banner received a call from investigators a couple weeks back because they wanted to speak with the delivery person for Sonia’s neighbourhood.
They changed their mind, however, after learning the carrier there is a senior woman.

Ummm...is this gender bending???...who's to say that THE person ISN'T a female???????????????....please LE....exclude NO ONE!!! I dare say there are just as many warped women as men...please keep an open mind...for every Clyde there is a Bonnie!

I wonder how all the swabbing is going? It's almost been a year and her murder needs to be solved. There were THREE crime scenes and there were people next door to her when it happened. WTH???????? People need to start talking NOW because it's so very likely someone knows something. JMO

So, there wasn't any rain and it was really hot during those two days and warm during the night. This guy wore work boots, not sandals or running shoes (regular summer foot wear). This guy either either came back from work or was going to work for an early morning shift somewhere. JMO

Conflicting reports about noise that night:
Varaschin's next-door neighbour, Cindy Downey, had her windows open but didn't hear anything unusual.

"It's definitely pretty shocking that something random like this can happen in such a small little subdivision," Downey said.

Neighbour Steffen Lundy, a resident of the quiet, dead-end Spring Street, heard a ruckus late Sunday night in the vicinity of Ms. Varaschin’s home.

“I was sleeping and pretty much woke up to car tires squealing … and yelling,” Mr. Lundy recalled.

Locals:did someone come home in work clothes or a change of clothes that left you puzzled in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug 30th or return home from work later on Aug 30th with their work clothes still on?

Ten days from now, will mark one year since SV was callously slain, I wonder if the perp is thinking about that that date? Does he think that he got away with murder, is he fearful that he will be caught, or is he tortured with guilt? Maybe he would love to go out with some friends and have a few drinks, but dare not just in case the alcohol causes him to slip up and say something.....
"The petite pediatric nurse was slain in her Spring Street home either late on the night of Aug. 29 or early the next morning."
