Waterford child's ashes stolen in home break-in
    By Laura Phelps
    The Detroit News

Waterford Township— When Wendy and Dave Turnquist returned home Friday and saw their side-door window smashed and the door open, they thought about the television, laptops and jewelry that might be missing. They never thought a thief would have taken their son's urn and gold medallion with his thumbprint, and only those two items.

Ryan Christopher McDonald died when he was 12 years old on Feb. 9, 2007. For many years he battled Kearns-Sayre Syndrome, a debilitating disease that made it difficult for him to walk and speak, but was celebrated in his community for his cheerfulness and good nature...

They appear to be thinking enemies. I am thinking it is more personal than that. They seem to have ignored pretty much everything other than the ashes and medallion.
I hope they have talked to the kid's dad. And the paternal grandparents. Any half or even step siblings. It's the holidays. Something makes me feel it will be in that area.

DH hadn't known about this sad situation until we watched the 6:00 local news together, and I wondered if this story would be featured. Once I briefed him on the circumstances, DH immediately said that it sounded like the ex-husband/bio-dad of the boy and/or his family were probably responsible. My thoughts are that "dad" might not have agreed with the cremation but had no say in the disposition of his deceased son's remains and might not have even been given some of his son's ashes to keep. jmo

We had this happen here right before Christmas Eve Bette.

The thieves took the urn but thankfully they left the bag of ashes that had been inside and some other memento's of the child's out in a common area where it could be easily seen on a beach front area.

Hopefully these thieves will drop this child's ashes somewhere, even if they want to keep the urn.

Definitely a member of the family. No one breaks into a home to steal just one thing and makes it a child's ashes. From the photo, you can clearly tell that was an urn and not a jewelry box or something. This was personal and targeted. LE needs to look very close to home.
