Should have taken it out over a remote area in Montana if it could be done safely.

Whatever the Chinese are seeking to do is not an advantage to us. We've already let them get away with creating a worldwide, lingering very economically devastating pandemic (MOO).

If U.S. infrastructure is threatened, action must be taken. We've already got terrorists (domestic or otherwise) taking down power in widespread areas in at least two states.

The next frontier in economic dominance is here, which puts the freedoms we take for granted in danger.

Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said the US government has been tracking the balloon for several days as it made its way over the northern United States, adding it was “traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.”

...

While the balloon’s current flight path carries it over “a number of sensitive sites,” the official said it does not present a significant intelligence gathering risk. The balloon is assessed to have “limited additive value” from an intelligence collection perspective, the official added.

The article goes on to say the US military is taking steps to minimize intelligence gathering by the spy balloons. It sounds like they've known about it for a while and that China has sent these spy balloons over the US before.

Hmmm.....the Chinese are simply floating a "test balloon"? Sure. Ok.

China has sent surveillance balloons over the United States in the past. However, this one has lingered in US airspace much longer, the senior defense official said.

"We are taking steps nevertheless to protect against foreign intelligence collection of sensitive information," the official said.
....
"China's brazen disregard for US sovereignty is a destabilizing action that must be addressed, and President Biden cannot be silent," current Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted Thursday evening.

Why has this happened before and we havent heard about it? How often is this occurring? Did this one lose altitude and become too obvious to not report? Why are we allowing this?

Why wasn't it shot down or detected before it got into U.S. airspace? Why isn’t this a big deal?

U.S. readied fighter jets

The senior defence official said the U.S. did get fighter jets, including F-22s, ready to shoot down the balloon if ordered to by the White House.

The Pentagon ultimately recommended against it, noting that even as the balloon was over a sparsely populated area of Montana, its size would create a debris field large enough that it could have put people at risk.

[…]

One of the places the balloon was spotted was Montana, which is home to one of the U.S.'s three nuclear missile silo fields at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

Could the air force put something over it or attach a cable and tow it to an unpopulated area in MT, and pull it down ?

Imo -- I'd like to know what intelligence the CCP has been gathering !

Curious about the "three buses" size ... as in , end to end, or side by side ?
Either way, that's a large device to enter our airspace and go undetected.

Or IF detected, they need to shoot it down and see what the CCP is looking for.

What would China do if we did that on their territory ??
Or even in the waters outside the Chinese coast ?

There was a bit of talk back a few weeks or months ago about China spying on people through the TikTok engine ?
Not sure if that's accurate, though.
I don't view or use Tiktok.

Here's a few links :

The People's Republic of China confirmed Friday that the balloon craft floating over the northern United States is Chinese.

"The airship is from China. It is a civilian airship used for research, mainly meteorological, purposes," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed Friday. "Affected by the Westerlies and with limited self-steering capability, the airship deviated far from its planned course."

And of course we are expected to believe everything the Chinese say…..

This is terribly concerning. And no, not for one second do I believe anything that China says. I'm super disappointed that this spy balloon is hovering above our country. Do you think China would allow the US to do the same?

As if any in the United States take what they say as fact and truth. These are one of the countries that have taken out family members to stay on the throne or keep them from speaking out.
