Actually the problem with generalities is that there are always exceptions and that is how my comment was meant. I am 66 so you would be youngish in my eyes. Glad you like her, she is funny but I still think her act was out of place on a news channel. On an HBO comedy special it'd have been fine, we can just agree to disagree on this..

It was uncomfortable the first time KG made her lewd movement towards AC's "package" but it became totally awkward and not funny after she kept doing the stunt over and over.

Total sleazeball, trashy, tacky, non-entertaining, crude, etc., etc.,

They're friends, you know. He's not going to refuse to work with her again.

True, he probably won't refuse to work with her again. If he calls me up for advice, though, I'll suggest it. :)

They bored me to tears. I don't find Kathy humourous at all. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

I switched over to Global (Canadian) and watched Hedley perform live from Niagara Falls and then at 11:30 watched Dick Clark's NY Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest. He did an awesome job!! Big congratulations to Ryan!

Comedienne Kathy Griffin goes on David Letterman show (wearing spray on leather dress) to say she WON'T apologize for simulating oral sex with Anderson Cooper live on air

Unrepentant comedienne Kath Griffin has publicly announced she has no intention of apologising for simulating oral sex live on CNN.

US television watchdog said yesterday that Griffin 'had shown increasing contempt for the CNN audience', after shocking viewers during the New Year's Eve show with behaviour branded 'vile' and 'putrid.'

Despite the backlash, the presenter and actress went on the David Letterman show last night and said: 'If you think this is the part where I’m going to apologise for trying to go down on Anderson Cooper you are sorely mistaken.'

KG wants attention. She isn't funny and this is the only way to get it. Didn't she do something a while back that got people talking about her. Something about saying "Jesus" on an award show? My memory is terrible. I'll have to go back and look for it.

Whether AC says he won't work with her again or not, I don't think CNN will use her again for ringing in 2014.

I love Anderson Cooper---met him first on a trip when his Dad brought him to Mississippi as a little boy...10 or 12 I think. He was a charmer even then. Subsequently, during his coverage of Hurricane Katrina. But can't stand Kathy Griffin...that display was so horrible, I switched channels. Maybe the two should just be friends off the air.

I am with you on this. I love kathy's stand up comedy and know her love for the gays. I know that cooper is gay. But... That crossed the line and should have at least for warned the audience at large. jmo That is way over board.

If the genders were reversed, and a man was acting like that to a woman - he'd've been arrested and charged with sexual assault or something by now.

What is with her targeting gays anyway? "She loves gays" ~~whatever.

Her behavior with Cooper was ridiculous and if anything showed disrespect to gay people IMO.

At one time I enjoyed her material as well but she hasn't been relevant or funny for a long time and it looks like she is trying desperately to get any publicity for herself that she can muster.

Guess I'm happy I don't have cable, and I was asleep well before any of these shows began. I didn't see it. I don't need to, I get the idea. It was for an adult audience, if you like that kind of humor.

Maybe this is one of those situations where "any publicity is good publicity." Even a lot of negative backlash can jump someone back up to number 1 in "the biz."

Just my opinion, but I love Kathy Griffin. And I love her chemistry with Anderson Cooper. The oral sex stuff was a little over the top, but that's her.

When I was a kid and I saw or heard anything pertaining to oral sex on TV or otherwise, it didn't bother me. I just thought "It must be a joke, coz NOBODY would ever REALLY put their mouths on someone else's woo hoo. That's gross!" - this is literally what I thought until I was 13 or 14 years old. But now that I'm older, I don't recall a single instance when watching TV with my family of my parents freaking out over something that wasn't meant for young kids. My guess is that the channel would just change, my mom would pass it off and say "they're just playing" or some other diversion.

My point is, young children do not get oral sex. Seeing what CNN aired is not going to harm your child. They just shrug and don't get it, or they'll ask questions in which the best response is "that was an adult joke, it was not very funny."

But again, that's just my opinion. I continued my New Years by watching Kathy Griffin's comedy specials on Bravo, coz I really do think she's hilarious.

That 'change the channel' argument is bogus. If you knew it was going to happen, then yes change it before it does. But these things happen before you get a chance to "change the channel". You can't un-see something.

Throughout their careers, Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers were both regarded by some as being lewd, vulgar, disrespectful, distasteful, etc., but despite the criticism, both of these women made folks  People who didn't like them didn't have to watch them on TV or pay to see them in concert. I'm fortunate to have seen both women perform and would like very much to see Kathy Griffin on stage. She has her own style that might not appeal to some, but she is funny, and makes me :floorlaugh:

On NYE, DH and I had an early dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant and were home by 7:30 - in time for Jeopardy! From 8-9:30, we watched the tribute to Marvin Hamlisch on PBS that had us both singing (and me dancing) along to the music of the master of Broadway shows. When that ended, we put our 'jammies on, opened a bottle of bubbly, and LOAO while watching Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper. While we were bummed that we couldn't attend our usual NYE Red Wings game, we had a wonderful evening and are happy to have eclectic tastes in entertainment.

Bette, you're my kind of lady! Funny, my mom introduced me to Kathy, sent me one of her books. She's irreverent and sassy, and can be very crude (doesn't bother this girl), but she also is a huge support of equality, LBGT folks, and AIDS support/research.

Exactly. It was offensive to gays that she wanted to "kiss the sardine", knowing AC is gay and wanted no part in her trying to fondle his penis. If she had any respect for her gay friends, she wouldn't have done that. Call me naive, but I didn't think the (male) gays wanted females to play with their bits. Besides, AC has a boyfriend!

    Just my opinion of course.

I agree... we watched it and it just went on forever and was too much. Kathy can't seem to find the same grove as other comedians who can be slightly raunchy with their innuendo (Betty White) and still remain funny. I'm glad none of our kids or grandkids were watching it with us, but I thought about kids or teenagers who often stay up and watch these programs on NYE - I did - and the show was sleezy and cheesy. A little bit would have gone a long way.

My 16 year old watched it with us and was if anything more irate than we were- he went to his room and sent an email to CNN telling them it wasn't appreciated. His main deal was that it was overdone and he also felt it was demeaning to gays. He ism usually more liberal than we are so, go figure..
