Two school administrators at Denver's East High School were shot by a 17-year-old student Wednesday morning, police said. As of that afternoon, one of the victims was undergoing surgery and the second was in stable condition at a hospital.

No other injuries were reported, according to Colorado Public Radio/Denverite.

Police say they were still looking for the student who has been identified as Austin Lyle, 17.

Police identify student accused of shooting East HS staff members

Austin Lyle, 17, is wanted for attempted murder related to the shooting that happened while he was being searched for weapons at the school.

The two staff members, both male administrators, were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of them was taken into surgery for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The second person was in serious condition but was able to talk with investigators.
Jerald Mason and Eric Sinclair are both listed as deans at East High School and Denver Health confirmed both are current patients.

The car is identified as a 2005 Volvo. I imagine that well maintained Volvos can be very reliable at 18 years young.

But... if regular maintenance has not been done, 18 years could be pushing the expected life span of the car.

This may limit him to the Denver area if the car is not truly roadworthy in the interstate highway sense.

Welp, so much for pat downs. I'm glad that so far, no one has died.
This month, at least.
EMTs were already at school for a medical incidence. Thank goodness.

....
The shooting at East High School was reported at about 9:50 a.m., and police and medical responders arrived on the scene “very quickly” to find two adult men with gunshot wounds, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said.
....
In addition, another student was taken to a hospital because of an allergic reaction, the mayor said. Paramedics were already in the building for that incident when the shooting occurred and so were able to immediately treat those wounded, Hancock said.
....

Last month, 16-year-old student Luis Garcia was shot inside a parked car near the school and died weeks later, according to CNN affiliate KMGH. A group of East High students later attended a city council meeting and demanded action on gun violence and school safety, KMGH reported.

“We’re scared,” junior Mateo Tullar said at the meeting. “We don’t want to be at school. We don’t feel safe there. It’s not okay. These things need to change.”

Earlier this month, the Denver East High School chapter of Students Demand Action staged a school walkout and called for immediate actionon gun safety. The walkout included a march through the city to the state capitol and featured more than 1,000 students and educators, according to Students Demand Action.

Police said they are identifying Lyle because of the safety threat he poses. The search has expanded beyond the Denver metro area to other parts of Colorado. He was transferred to East High in January after violating board policy where he was removed from Cherry Creek's Overland High School and was required to be on a safety plan.

I wonder what the " violating board policy" was about at Cherry Creek Overland HS?
Did that violation include firearms?
Were parents and students at East High informed of the potential for violations/and daily pat downs with this new transfer student?

Great question... what policy would that be? And, why doesn't East High have the same board policy?

How many other "violating students" are getting shuffled around to other schools?

(Moo. Any Volvo over 100k miles, if not well maintained, is a dumpster fire waiting to happen. I know a Volvo mechanic.)

police officers were removed from this district after a unanimous school board vote in 2020.

The Denver Public Schools Board of Education, which Hancock said will meet on Thursday to address safety concerns in schools, originally passed the resolution in June 2020, arguing that the "overwhelming majority of the incidents that resulted in students being introduced into the criminal justice system at such a young age could have been more effectively addressed by school personnel, restorative practices, or other community-based services."
