I think there are some assumptions being made here. Yes, LE initially characterized Gannon’s disappearance as being a “runaway.”

From very early on though, their words didn’t jibe with their actions. While calling this a runaway child case, they were clearly investigating the possibility of a crime.

We know this, in part, because of the stepmom’s tv interview. She was apparently grilled by law enforcement, and felt as if she was being treated as a suspect.

It takes time to get warrants, and warrants require probable cause. Investigations like this do not happen overnight.

And in regards to “the public conducting their own investigation,” the last thing law enforcement wants are idiots on Facebook interfering with what they are trying to do.

There have been no shortage of unfounded rumors perpetuated by social media at this point, and those are incredibly harmful.

It’s great that the public is being involved in the search, but they are not investigators.

The investigating should be left to law enforcement.
Yes. And in this case LE is pulling out all the stops and has been since the virtual beginning. At least compared to what I’ve seen in other cases I’ve been following recently.

Deception Detection presupposes truth in a statement. Does the step mother show concern for Gannon? Does she express understanding of what Gannon, currently missing, is going through? We let her words guide us.

awesome. Thank you for sharing this. I just made a comment about something similar. This is very interesting.

I have noticed with other guilty criminals for instant Drew Peterson, they cover their face when they're in front of the camera. He had wrapped A bandana around his face and sunglasses on when he would come outside because of the shame that they feel cuz they know they did something wrong. SM doing the same thing.

I agree. My 12-yr-old who is quite tech savvy, still has no interest in his phone. Won’t even take it with him unless I insist
According to NPR: Just over half of children in the United States — 53 percent — now own a smartphone by the age of 11. And 84 percent of teenagers now have their own phones, immersing themselves in a rich and complex world of experiences that adults sometimes need a lot of decoding to understand.

I have a question for the more seasoned WS'ers that have follows a lot of cases. This is only my second, first being Harley.

Do you think LEA would purposely lead (or not correct the assumption) the public/media perception about a person they believe committed the crime? Like they like that everybody is looking one way when in all actuality they are going in a complete opposite direction? Is that something that has happened in the past with other cases? Or do I need a WS break? lol

With me spending 20 years in Little League, that bag looked like a duffel bag a coach would have with all the baseball equipment in it. Catchers gears, balls, bats, extra gloves, a catcher mitt, batting helmets. Or on a smaller scale, a bag a kid would have for the ball field. A jacket, cleats, a bat, a couple of baseballs. IMO
Me too. All the women in my family played competitive softball since we could pick up a bat. Two got a full ride at OU. I agree. My immediate thought as I saw it.

I think that’s an interesting thought. I’ve been wondering if the neighbor with the video was prompted by LE to spill only a little of his guts. Putting the pressure on her to talk. Like “C’mon now. I just tore your dollar in half. What can you do with a half a dollar? I’m fixin’ to jack that other half. Now you got nothing. “Winner winner chicken dinner” for LE.” The neighbor seemed compliant and respectful of witnesses and AS. Why did he agree to that interview?

i'm not fully understanding why that video that shows 2 people getting into a car is so poorly produced. story is the guy had high definition on a large screen tv and also an ipad screen and some television news crew showed up and that video is the best they could do? i'd be ashamed to show my boss that clip if the source video was as great as being reported. as public joe i'm being asked to accept that the persons in the video are SM and Gannon, while it probably is that fact in no way alters the reality of now having a video that really shows nothing as far as being able to even slightly identify anyone. and since the poorly produced video was done days ago no one has gone to do a better take?

What is the name of the neighbor who released the video footage?

Something really grabbed from the Timeline.Someone posted. But I can't copy and paste just one part of it,and now I can't find it. It's something AS said, about what TS told him about Gannon visiting a friend. It's like he had zero idea Gannon was 'going to visit his friend that day'. However when you listen to TS's version she sure makes it sound like he knew, " as if Gannon actually contacted AS to ask if he could go.
From the way RD explains how AS reacted to surveillance footage. I'm going with what AS said. "She lied" it's probably why she said in her interview that she couldn't get into the Details. Well Hello. The Devil's in the details.

(To tag me just put the @ in front of Oviedo - @oviedo - and I will get a notification - I’m out this weekend but will check in)

I'm working on the timeline with links - it should have (and may not yet have) links to all the information that comes up over and over again - I'm still looking for the link to the second 911 call made that night of GS missing

Timeline

The timeline from the moment Gannon was reported missing to the decision to upgrade the preteen to an endangered missing child was outlined by the sheriff's office as followed:

Monday, Jan. 27
El Paso County Sheriff's Office asking for help finding missing 11-year-old boy
Gannon Stauch of Colorado Springs left home on foot around 3:15 p.m. to go play at a friend's house, his parents say, but never came home. Gannon was wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and tennis shoes when he went missing. He has brown hair with brown eyes and weighs 90 pounds.
- 6:55 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office dispatch receives call of runaway child, 6600 Block Mandan Drive.
- 7:32 p.m., Gannon Stauch entered into state and national databases as active runaway
- Last seen between 3 and 4 p.m. on the 27th
- Nothing found on initial search

(Police arrived and looked in backyard with flashlights - A little after 10 p.m. on Tuesday the El Paso County Sheriff's Office showed up at Gannon's home. Law enforcement walked up to the home and appeared to be searching in the backyard with flashlights. The garage door was opened and a car was pulled out. We are waiting for an update from the sheriff's office on why law enforcement was there.

(Dad (AS) finds out he is missing. "We kind of do the street light rule - when the street lights come on or it gets dark, they better be home and it was like maybe 30 minutes past that...started to worry at that point. Then I started texting all the friends that we know he goes to and nobody had seen him," Stauch said.
He said Gannon didn't let them know what friend's house he was going to in the neighborhood and that this was "unlike him so that's why we're obviously really concerned."
Eventually, the police were called.
"Once we went through that whole checklist it's like, you know, where could he be?" Stauch said.

Also on Thursday, a Sheriff's Office patrol car with two deputies was parked for an extended period of time across the street from the Stauch family home, and two other men appearing to be law enforcement officers sat in an unmarked car down the street.
However, the officers left the scene after two men and a woman got into a pickup truck parked in the driveway, and drove away.
Many people on social media are wondering why more information about Gannon isn't available. As KRDO NewsChannel 13 reported Wednesday, it is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to investigate reports of missing children aged 10 and older as runaways, until evidence is found to prove an abduction or kidnapping has taken place.

Note- GS was not seen at *advertiser censored* & Go convenience:
At one point, deputies thought Gannon had stopped by the *advertiser censored* & Go convenience store on Mesa Ridge Parkway Monday night, but after the mother reviewed the surveillance, she confirmed it was not her son.
The sheriff's office says they have information that leads them to believe Gannon ran away. They did not elaborate further. 11 News asked EPSO Wednesday if Gannon is still considered a runaway and was told he is. Law enforcement and family are concerned about Gannon's wellbeing and are anxious to find him. Gannon's father is a member of the National Guard, and the Guard is also assisting with search efforts.

"She doesn't have very much, just what she's been told, that no one has seen GS since Monday," Birkenstock said.
She characterized GS as "a very loving child. Disappearing is totally out of his character; he always has to be with somebody. He's very quiet, very smart."
GS's mother, who lives in South Carolina, and father, who was away for military training at the time of his disappearance, share custody, she said.
Information received during an interview with Stauch's stepmother and other information lead deputies to believe he's a runaway instead of a missing person, Mynatt said Tuesday, adding that foul play is not suspected.

The school district told the Colorado Springs Gazette Gannon was absent on Monday. They said counselors would be available at the school.
Police also addressed a rumor that Gannon’s stepmother, Tecia Stauch, was not fully cooperative with law enforcement. “At this point in time we are conducting multiple interviews and what I can tell you is that each leade we have had is exhausted,” Mihalko said..
He said they are looking at persons of interest, but only meaning that they are people that could give them additional information about Gannon.

Tecia Stauch stood with her back to the camera while she was speaking with CBS 11 on Friday afternoon, in connection with her missing stepson, Gannon Stauch. She was insistent that she would never harm the child, who vanished while under her care.
...
Tecia Stauch explained that on Sunday, she took Gannon and his younger sister hiking at the Garden of the Gods Park. Afterward, they stopped by to eat at Burger King, she said. Gannon reportedly did not attend school the following day.
...
Reportedly, Tecia did not know which friend’s house the boy went to on Monday, according to Al Stauch, who said his wife told him that Gannon didn’t specify which friend he wanted to visit, NBC 5 reports. The stepmother said she couldn’t comment on the details of the case at this time.
...
“My husband’s ex-wife is living in our home,” the woman complained. “I took care of Gannon for the last two years in our home because his mother didn’t want to do it…OK, and I would never, ever hurt this child.”
...
“I was denied, I was told I couldn’t get nothing to drink, I couldn’t go to the bathroom. I mean it was continually that my constitutional rights were violated,” she explained.

As of Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office had received more than 70 tips in the case.
On Thursday, 11 News learned The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) deployed a consultant from their Team Adam program to help. Team Adam is a free resource provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to law enforcement. Named after Adam Walsh, the abducted and murdered son of NCMEC co-founders John and Revé Walsh, Team Adam provides rapid, on-site assistance to law enforcement (LE) agencies and families in critical cases of missing children.
The National Guard has also dispatched some of its troops to help. Gannon's father is a member of the Colorado National Guard.
Civilian-led search parties have combed the area in and around the Lorson Ranch neighborhood, where Gannon's home is located.
"So far, we've had random people going out anywhere they can," said Sara Robertson, one of the volunteers searching for Gannon Wednesday. "We decided to have more of an organized community around here, so we're all meeting here and heading out in different directions. We have about 40 per group. We have it gridded out checking every neighborhood all the surrounding grassy areas and fields ... looking in holes, in culverts, in ditches, anything we can do."

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office gets new evidence in search for missing 11-year-old boy

Feb 3, 2020

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- One week after an 11-year-old El Paso County boy went missing, authorities received a new piece of evidence to further the investigation into Gannon Stauch’s disappearance.
FOX31 obtained a copy of this evidence that came from a neighbor's surveillance camera. Authorities have asked us not to describe or show it yet because it’s a part of their investigation. To ensure we don’t compromise anything in the search for Stauch, we are honoring the sheriff’s office request.
A few doors down, neighbor Roderrick Drayton did some investigating on his own.“I couldn’t sleep so I just stayed up and I started looking through [surveillance footage],” Drayton said, adding, “I looked through on my tablet, then I said, 'Let me look on my TV to be sure.”Police have asked us not to share what he found yet.“This is something the investigators are looking into and it would be part of our investigation,” Kirby said.Drayton took the footage to Stauch’s father, who immediately called detectives.“He just broke down crying,” Drayton said.Drayton says detectives were moved by the footage too.
“They said this is the break they needed,” Drayton said.

She went from full face, front and center, huge on the "missing child" flyer.....to "you can only look at the back of my head during this interview" pretty quickly. I don't think it went like she thought it was gonna go..... IMO
When the decision was made to use that pic for the flyer, no one really had a clue what was going on. She was still more or less considered innocent and I think she was banking on that, i.e., "look at us, a perfectly happy family doing healthy, outdoorsy things together".

But by the time she granted that infamous Cousin It interview, she had already been allegedly asked to leave her own home, with her child (her words) so she more than likely already knew her charade was unraveling. She kept her face hidden because she was lying, and probably wasn't sure she'd be able to bring a convincing face with her.

Kyron Richard Horman (born September 9, 2002) is an American boy who disappeared from Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon, on June 4, 2010, after attending a science fair.[2] Local and state police, along with the FBI, conducted an exhaustive search for Horman and launched a criminal investigation, but have not uncovered any significant information regarding the child's whereabouts.[3] His disappearance sparked the largest criminal investigation in Oregon history. As of 2020, his whereabouts remain unknown.[4]
Thank you! I remember hearing about this case in MSM now.
