Still no news on who this might be or how long this baby was stuffed in the crawl space. Very sad that nobody has noticed this child is missing. I mean, obviously the parent/s are behind this, but what about everyone else? Is there no one who had a friend with a baby that suddenly doesn't have one? What about the rest of the family? Daycare? Tragic to think a parent can dispose of their child and almost get away with it!

Wow she was 7 to 10 years old. Not a toddler after all.

    From the article just posted:

The body found Friday in the basement of a Monument house belonged to a small, 7-10 year old girl, according to preliminary autopsy results released Monday.

    Rest in peace, honey.

Monument police said an autopsy was scheduled for yesterday, but they’re still waiting on the results from the El Paso County coroner’s office.
7NEWS asked why it seemed to be taking a while to get the results.

"I don’t know that this is unusual at all. I know they have a number of things they have to do with an autopsy. We may have the results on Monday, I don’t know," said Monument Police Chief Jacob Shirk.

Monument police are getting help from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as they investigate this death as a homicide.

"Monument is a small department. I only have 13 commissioned officers. I’ve sent El Paso County our only detective who’s working hand in hand on this case. That’s one of the concerns we have, that these cases become very manpower intensive," Shirk said.

Shirk said some of the past tenants and owners of the home are out of state. So, it has taken some time to contact people for questioning.

Neighbors told 7NEWS the house has seen a constant turn over of tenants.

The owner of the property had put the home up for sale recently. It was temporarily taken off the market on Sunday.

7NEWS made numerous attempts to reach the owner of the property, who lives in Arizona, but he did not return phone calls.

" An autopsy on the remains of a child's body found in the basement of an empty home in Monument revealed it was that of a 7- to 10-year-old girl of unknown race."

"Neighbors told 7NEWS over the weekend that they remember a family living in the house about three years ago. They said a 6-year-old girl disappeared and the family told them the girl had moved back to New Jersey to live with her aunt."

Saying a presser but didn't see time.

THREE YEARS ago?!? Was there no other friends or family who questioned this little girls whereabouts? How very sad.

Our local news just had a neighbor on who said the family of the girl who suddenly disappeared referred to her as their "problem child". I pray they can track these people down quick.

Neighbors told 7NEWS over the weekend that they remember a family with a little girl living in the house about a year and half ago. They said the 6-year-old girl disappeared one day and the family told them she had moved back to New Jersey to live with her aunt.

Another neighbor said others had called police before about possible abuse at the home.

"I was even there when police were called. At one point, we talked to (the parents) and they said she was fine," said neighbor Kristin McCollam. "I have four kids so to me it's heartbreaking that anyone could even do that to a child."

Monument police Chief Jacob Shirk said he can't say yet whether police visited the home in the past, but a spokeswoman with the Department of Human Services confirmed to 7NEWS that department officials had contacted that particular family before.

Gabrielle Bearsheart's daughter used to play with the girl who lived in the house. She said she too thinks the body belongs to the girl her daughter played with, but she's hoping it's not.

If it's her, it's scary how the family almost got away with it, if they'd just hidden the body better. Wonder how many people just tell others that the child moved out of state and nobody will ask any questions.

Maybe there should be some kind of follow-up by schools, daycare, doctors etc.
If a child drops out of one facility they should receive some kind of confirmation that the child entered another program elsewhere alive and well and if they don't get any they should notify the authorities to confirm the child's whereabouts. Apparently parents cannot be trusted to keep track of their own children.

I had a dream about this case lastnight and the family was arrested. I watched them being handcuffed and loaded into the squad car....I'm sure it is enevitable :) but I thought I would share just the same....

Neighbors Believe They Know I.D. on Monument Girl's Body
    Posted: 11:23 PM May 17, 2010

Monument Police are not commenting about suspects and say they are following any and all leads, but some neighbors are beginning to draw up their own ideas as to the identity of a little girl whose body was found in a crawlspace in a home in Monument.

Police say the girl's remains were discovered by two construction workers who were working on the home on May 14th.

Some neighbors now say they think she was part of a family that was staying at the home on Century Place as guests to another family that lived there a few years ago.

Neighbors say the families met on the internet, and moved in together, but things changed, and visiting family moved out. Somewhere along the way, neighbors say the little girl disappeared.

Century Place residents Caroline Dinwiddie and Kristin McCollam say they've lived in the neighborhood for a combined 14 years.

They say they knew of a little girl who played with their own children and went to school with them, but who eventually disappeared.

Dinwiddie says they asked the family one day what had become of the girl, and the family responded " 'Oh she was our problem child, we shipped her off to New Jersey to live with her aunt,' " and they never saw the girl again.

Neighbors Hold Candlelight Vigil for Monument Girl
    Posted: 11:01 PM May 17, 2010

Neighbors held a candlelight vigil Monday night for the little girl whose body was found inside the crawlspace of a home in Monument.

Mourners brought candles, flowers, stuffed animals and balloons.

They said prayers and released the balloons, with messages on them, and sang on the doorstep of the home where her body was found.

Children from the neighborhood also read messages to the little girl, telling her they missed her, and they loved her
