DY, of Eaton, was among volunteers who combed Salida Saturday and Sunday, seeking information about his friend and neighbor Nathan Schwartz, 22. DY was on D Street, handing out posters with information about the missing college student. Noting:
  • Salida Police Chief said there has been no new information.
  • Nathan was headed to Colorado Springs Feb. 22.
  • He texted his mother Feb. 24 from a cell tower in the Salida area.
  • The phone has been turned off since that last connection and his debit card has not been used since last week.
  • His car was found in town Tuesday.
Adding to the above bullet points because I didn't see this information the first time further down the page...
  • Johnson [Salida Police Chief] said they have searched the vehicle, which neighbors said had been sitting there for about three days. They also investigated some leads from the neighbors, but nothing has “panned out.”
  • Johnson said they have met with members of the Eaton Police Department, who have handed the case off to Salida Police.
  • LE has also checked with local hotels and motels, and have checked video that may have picked up Schwartz, but have found nothing.

Nathan Schwartz, of Eaton, was headed to Colorado Springs Feb. 22, to go back to school according to his uncle, Tom Roberts of Greeley.

He texted his mother Feb. 24, and the last ping from his cell phone was Saturday night from Salida.

Schwartz’s car was found late Tuesday afternoon.

Police attempted to locate Schwartz in the immediate neighborhood and were told the car had not been moved for about three days.

Roberts said the family has gotten access to Schwartz’s debit card information and the card has not been active since a gasoline purchase was made last week.

Schwartz is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 150-160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

Salida police chief Russ Johnson said the family was concerned about a medical issue that needs to be addressed.

Anyone with information about Schwartz’s whereabouts is asked to call Chaffee County dispatch at 719-539-2596 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 719-539-5299

While they can’t discuss the evidence, Jonathan and Michelle say they, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, believe Nathan is alive.

“We have good reason to believe that he was not a lost hiker,” Jonathan said. “And we also have good reason to believe there was no foul play.”

The family is now pleading for his return.

“Nathan, we love you, we miss you. We just want to be in contact with you,” Jonathan said. “We just want to know that you’re safe.”

“We love him,” Michelle said. “If there’s any way he can reach out to us, to just please do so.”

“We want him to know that everything is OK and we want him to know that if life takes a different path for him, that’s okay,” Jonathan said. “But we’re still here to support him.”
